oli - good on you. i'm not even entertaining thoughts of the ride back. gonna get coach home, grab about 5 hours sleep and then ride to my parents, a gentle 30 miles with mum's cooking at the end!
paul - delusion schmelusion. you'll be absolutely fine, you looked ship shape today at the Raven. like a man who could ride 100 miles and not even notice because he was ruminating on the merits of PsyTrance

Anyone know if sparky is still doing the ride? Can't get in touch with him.
If not, chainbreaker, you got youself a ticket.

^ nice Ed. I had this problem this morning....having hoped the rails would be enough!
Fortunately Condor had a QR left by this afternoon! did the job nicely.Simon, I have a pair of those attachable saddlebag loops on Nic's bike if you need, although it sounds like you may already be sorted.
I'm worrying about how much water to take now, 3 liters is pretty heavy. And I'm not too keen on dragging a heavy lock to Suffolk? May just take a cable lock for quick dash away from bike.
-
• #1680
Don't take a lock! just a cable lock, your main problem are generally cow eyeing up your bicycle but that about it.
if you're that worried, get an alarmed padlock instead.
-

I want to bring my proper waterproof jacket but can't think how to attach it. I've got no bags or anything.
-
• #1682
^^Yep, cheers Ed I think the wife's cable lock should suffice.
^ No bag at all! Don't let Ed or Scott hear you saying that
-
• #1683
sumo, wrap the arm of the jacket around your neck, and scream "Dadadadadaaaa..." while riding.
-

ha^
Sumo: roll waterproof up in neat cyndrical roll about eight inches long. Compress it with two toestraps. You know, toestraps. Straps, for toes. Then undo one toestrap, and do it up again, this time threading around saddle rails. Repeat.
-
• #1685
I have no toe straps because I use clipless.
-
• #1686
might duct tape it to my seat tube.
-
• #1687
And I'm not too keen on dragging a heavy lock to Suffolk?
locks are for cocks.
it rhymes so that pretty much outweighs all arguments to the contrary. seriously though, i'm not planning on taking a lock.

i can lend you 4 or so toestraps if you prefer henry
-
• #1689
My carradice zipped roll should do the trick for me.
I took a d-lock with me last year. mistake, never used it. jersey pockets plus saddle bag should be plenty I reckon.
-
• #1690
sumo: borrow some toe straps. Duct tape means once you remove it'll be hard to put it back on.
Or use a similar strap type thing. a skinny belt, some luggage straps, a bungee cord...

That's that one sorted then, no locks!

Alright, get a clipless pedal, attached it to the saddle, and then attach the cleat to the rain jacket.
Now you can clip the fucking thing in the saddle.

had bike service today too, and I now have a brand new chain and rear cassette fitted. amazing difference.
-
• #1694
this is what i'll be eating along the way
-
• #1695
Some people might look at my bike and call it cluttered and excessive...I prefer the terms 'Organised' and 'Ready for action'. :]
-
• #1696
Scott, get a damn photos of that bike!
You'll have no argument from me about that, I took too much but feel much more comfortable knowing that if I had a problem, I'm prepared.
unlike sumo with his rain jacket dilemma.

Can it be more 'organised' and 'ready for action' than the brown donkey is the question on everyone's lips?
-
• #1698
It's definitely more stripped down than the chocolate donkey. :]
Only thing is, because of the colours and all the little bags, I can't stop looking at it and thinking "Shit...It looks like a Police bike". :]
-
• #1699
...maybe their high speed bike pursuit division. :]
-

just out of curiosity, anyone planning on taking a musette?
Your secret's safe with us.
I know what you mean though. I'm on for the ride home, unless the weather's total cack, in which case I'd rather the bus back and a Sunday spent returning to normality.
That said, I'm having a hard time getting it together to head out in the first place. I'm currently about 75%.
