Yeah, no signing-up necessary. Just arrive and ride.
Are we going to train it down there before hand Mr Sparkes?

Due to a wedding happening on the same day as the Dunwich, I will NOT be running an LFGSS coach this year.
However, I am happy to fund a coach if someone else fully takes on all of the organisation for one.
What this translates to is:
- I stump up the costs (max £500 on coach, £300 on van)
- Each person on the coach pays something (say, £10, non-refundable even if they can't make it) which covers some of the costs, but leaves the forum subsidising the rest
- Someone needs to own organising this
Organisation is:
- Find and book a coach (I can recommend P&J Ellis, who we used last year)
- Find and book a van capable of carrying 50 bicycles (I have nothing to help you here, and it needs to be more like a furniture truck than a van... and it needs a lot of blankets and bubble wrap)
- Take care of getting yourself to the end early-ish
- Oversee the packing of bikes
- Oversee getting just forum members who have paid onto the coach
- Oversee pairing people up with bikes back in London
If someone is willing to do this work, I am very happy to cover the upfront costs and then just re-coup a portion of the money. In effect, I'm happy for the forum to subsidise the costs.
Why run a forum bus?
Well, it means you can be more sure of the safe transport of your bikes, you leave the site as soon as you're all there (which means not waiting around), it's cheaper per head than the Southwark buses.
Why not to run a bus?
It's a pain in the arse to organise.
So if there's a volunteer who is willing to take full responsibility and do all of the work involved, the money to subsidise it is there.
However, be aware that the wedding that I'm attending is a forum wedding. It's yet to be fully announced and invites sent out, but it is planned and will probably result in a number of people dropping out of the Dynamo.
Anyhow, you have my full support, but it's only financial. If someone wants this responsibility, then once you're sure you want it... PM me and we can go from there.
also someone will need to be found to drive said furniture van. a special licence is needed*
*unless you are old with one of the older licences. i cant drive the van otherwise might have taken over the organising.

Or you can hire someone to.
£300 for a furniture truck should be enough, just like £500 for the coach is enough to get one that includes the driver.
The key is getting the truck and driver to the car park and taking care of them (they'll be under deluge of the Southwark cyclists desperate to get home and just seeing a truck being loaded).

Just checked my licence and realised I qualify as old under the above definition. I was so apoplectic that I spilled bovril down my cardigan.

Need to work out how to get the fucker back though. Someone with some skills of the organising type arrange a van.

I'd be up for that! I've only ever ridden a few hundred yards on a tandem and I'm 6' 2" - is that a deal breaker?

Ended up looking at the Hase site, saw this:
Now what on earth is that trying to say? Certainly doesn't look convenient for stopping off for a coffee.

what size van was it last year? full 7.5t or box van? does anyone know?
-

Next to none. Last year I think the last of the forum rolled in at around 10.30am. It's a minimum of a 3 hour journey back to London and to unload.
-
• #174

Jenny's not the only one contemplating tandemming it. Again, dependent on the transport home (or riding back...) and sorting out a stoker.

what size van was it last year? full 7.5t or box van? does anyone know?
Last year I drove the largest white van I could lay my hands on and it was, in short, wasn't large enough by at least ten bikes. Even with a forum wedding (seriously, what self respecting cyclist set up a wedding on DD weekend) I reckon this year will be at least as popular as last year.
Couple of bits of advice for the van driver.
1) Park the other side of the park from the pub to avoid clashing with cyclists when you leave.
2) When you get to the beach, park close to the entrance to the parking area to avoid clashing with cyclists.
3) When you start driving away from the beach, don't even think about getting above 20mph until you've cleared the heath and got through Westleton.
4) If you do set up and alternative food stop, the location last time in Sudbury was pretty much ideal. As far as I can tell I didn't piss off any of the locals and was easily spotted by all people.
As a suggestion, in order to run a support vehicle and to operate within the budget, two large white vans might fit the bill. Also, Big Yellow Storage sells large rolls of bubblewrap at a reasonable price. Good luck to whoever picks up this task, it's kind of fun and a pretty rewarding experience.
Look above... the Forum Boss is looking for someone to organise the coaches this year.
