I tell a lie, my bicycle is a rack.

I have shitload of racks on my bicycle.
you mean "I have wheels on my rack".

Given the weather forecast y'all might want to consider mudguards. At least for the rear wheel, unless you're happy riding alone or at the back of a group.
Oh you are shitting me. Heavy rain. And then some heavy rain. It's going to be a case of keep warm and carry on, was hoping for a few calming, dawn moments. Oh well...
Might leave the rack on, I have a bit of wood I fix to it which works as a mudguard.

on the moving map thing at the bottom it shows a clear saturday night though.

If you click on Saturday, the forecast says that the night will be clear though at 14c it will be mild.

Pissing with rain during the day Sunday for the return cyclists. Still a bit dubious about the forecast though

rain or not, it won't stop you from enjoying the ride.
spin it motherfucker.

Up to a certain point I agree with you, but there can be such a thing as too much rain.

fuck sitting on a bike for 120 miles in pouring rain in sub 18 degree temperature
just a recipe for a shit time if ever i saw one
grumble grumble
now reconsidering taking part

I was considering bailing on this as my knee is still screwed from the Roll to the Stones but with a 26mph tailwind I shall just don a huge cape/poncho thingy and coast to the coast.

My granny always says "there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes" It won't be that bad (i hope and pray that this is the case) and besides Prancer aren't you the unofficial LFGSS rapha spokesperson or summit like that? Would have thought that you would be head to toe in stylish, warm waterproof goodness.

Where the fuck is everybody's sense of adventure?
It does you good to endure some shitty weather now and then...It cleanses your soul and turns a plain old ride into an epic.Don't start talking yourselves out of it already before the first drop has hit the ground!

waterproof on a bike is stupid

Just do it like Sean Kelly. Go out on the ride and decide afterwards whether you liked it or not.
Two of the most enjoyable rides I've ever done have been the 2007 and 2009 Exmouth Exoduses. Terrible conditions both times, but such fun.

I also loved the very rainy 2007 DD.

Dunwich and back isnt an adventure, its an outing. rain makes it a 15 hour autumn commute. I'm not chickening out, but it's going to be a struggle not to see it as a chore, numb toes, grinding grit into chain and rims, no relaxed stops, I get enough of that commuting between september and april thanks very much....
To those who reckon it might be clear Saturday night, thank you for that faint but warm ray of hope. Btw I'm starting from Crystal palace so its 260 miles for me... most I've ever done is 110...

If you're worried about numb toes, take whatever footwear you wear from September to April. It's not a commute just because it rains...it's still a ride where you get to meet loads of other cyclists who also didn't let the weather stop them from going riding.
We ride bikes, in the uk...your chain and rims will eventually get wet and gritty...it's just another part of being a cyclist.
Don't see it as a chore, see it as a challenge. Challenge yourself to not let the rain stop you doing it. If the most you've ever done is 11O, there is your reason for still doing it...to ride 26O...potentially in the rain. All I have left to say is this... The rain never stopped Barry doing it...and it never stopped him singing out of tune, or whistling, or keeping the spirits up of every single person he rode alongside who appeared to be struggling, either from rain, fatigue, or any other reason.
Rain isn't a reason to stay at home, It's a chance to see a rainbow!
See you all on Saturday!

There's a wonderful shop in Craghill (Cumbria) with that slogan too;
Scott is right, even if it's raining, you'll still be enjoying the ride, the lovely feeling of reaching Dunwich is something else.
Even lovelier when you rode back to London.
Now going to manufacturer mudguard out of old USA numberplate for the Moulton.
I have shitload of racks on my bicycle.
