Croix de Fer as a tourer?

What makes it wrong for touring? I find mine very laid back and comfortable.

If your frame the old geometry one, you can just fit the Thorn disc fork on it to make it handle quicker.

I'm now a little confused as since you also want a rack mount on it as well to go touring.

I toured for 3 years, on a 56cm vapour with a long haul trucker fork. It felt very comfortable on long rides, and handled fine under heavy load, front and back, even if this was not what the frame was designed for. I also stripped it down and it was great off road.

I thought the Croix would be a similar fast tourer, but it is slower than I expected. I know because you are sensible you will say I should have a touring bike for touring, and a road bike if I want to go fast, and a cross bike for off road. But I dont have room.

Having just bought a CDF (30) and parted with a Giant Defy 1 / Ridgeback World Panorama (new flat - small porch), I definitely see your point regarding the speed, i've stuck 28mm Gatorskins on mine and it feels very close to the Ridgeback in ride, leisurely and comfortable, certainly not nippy, although the actual speeds aren't too bad if Strava is anything to go by.

This was however what I was after, front rack and seat post bag for some light touring over the summer.

Anyone have experience with fenders on a Genesis CDF 30, which do you use?

I'm a fan these, particularly the way the arms loop around the guard:

But they're not recommended for 28mm tyres, the concern is that the 45mm versions will be overly large!

The 45s won't be too large either visually or functionally: however I've no idea as to whether they'll work in that frame.

I know from experience that that 35mm VO guards don't fit 28mm tyres.

45mm is perfect.

rule of thumb is usually add an extra 10-12mm on top of tyres size, says, 35mm = 45mm approx.

35mm mudguard will not give you any room at all.

Fitting guards to a CdF....use either spacers or lots of washers on the disc side. Looks far far tidier than bending the stays around the discs.
