Hmmm, thousands of cyclists managed for a very long time before the qr gubbins were invented.

I've no qr gubbins on my front just now as I bent the original stays to go around a disc caliper then changed forks/brakes so had to use stays off an older bike. I've set the guard up to be closer at the bottom than at the top so anything that does get in won't jam.

Well, I would have had a nasty accident/broken my guards at least a couple of times by now without them, even though I set the guards the same way as you.

I thought they were bs until that happened. I guess it depends on the trail though..

Both have CX geometry, like I mentioned earlier, it's the geometry that give the illusion of its being slow.

It says it in a way which makes you think it's a counties president, which obviously, Belgium doesn't have but doesn't France does....

Compared to the Vapour I was riding before, the croix has very laid back geo, and I miss the nippiness of the vapour frame. It was fun to ride unloaded, but with a surly LHT fork it could still carry 40kg. The croix has a 20cm longer wheelbase, and is a more upright position.

I have a roadbike, I want a 'cross bike. To me, the Croix feels like a tourer.

Does the Lynksey feel different?

Not ridden the Lynksey, but I'm searching for something closer to my old vapour, but which takes disc brakes.

Buy another Vapour perhaps?

After 4 years of heavy touring and off-roading, the rivets on the bottle cage mounts went, and the threads started to fail on the rack mounts. I also wanted better, more consistent brakes, and not to wear out my rims. Hence the desire for disc brakes and steel. I looked at all the options very carefully and it seemed like the croix was the best option, but did not expect the wheelbase to be 20mm longer than the vapour, I thought the geo would be closer.

I think the eqilibrium disc would be perfect but the black one has no rack mounts, and the new one is a nasty colour.

That's more likely to be a (disc) road bike than a cyclocross bike.

Oh it takes discs now, cool. Dont know how I missed that. Would it take the front fork off my croix, do you think? front racks are as must. Then I just need to respray it...
