Plenty of bridleways up north. Peaks and Pennines provide plenty of interesting tracks and trails with some mild elevation thrown in for kicks. Then there's the Lake District, Wales and Scotland - plenty of off roading around there. Towpaths make for a more relaxing day out or covering a lot of distance avoiding traffic.
I just think you'd be smashing into walkers every 2 minutes. I don't know why I'm going on about it - it just occurred to me earlier.

No reason why you can't put normal road going tyres on it.

I have put on a front soma porteur rack and I must admit that although the bike is fine to ride with, it has taken a lot of the fun out of riding it, the handling has changed a lot. I think I will try out a rear VO constructeur rack with a carradice rack top as an alternative as I dont need to carry that much everyday. What a shame as the rack looks great.
All the bolts have rusted already after exactly one ride in the rain! Would have expected them to be stainless like the rack. Poor show soma

I'm putting an order in with compass as I'm over in the states at the moment. Does anyone want anything? I'll bring it back in my bike box. PM me if you want anything.
Looking at you Scoble and andy. I'm going to give Compass's own tyres a go rather than more grand bois. Not that there has been anything wrong at all with the GB.

Thanks for the offer but I've just picked up some Paselas which should hopefully last the rest of the year.
Seen there's a 32 and 35c version of the Panaracer Gravelkings available later this year which will be a cheap/easy replacement if needed.

one for scoble-pressure critics ;)

jesus you can fit 30mm tyres in those sram brakes??
-
• #6263
The Roubiax tyres can be as big as nearly 30mm, which is the threshold with short reach brakes, race tyres tend to be thinner, so 30mm will fit whether a puncture resistant commuting tyres of the same size don't.
Inflate those tyres too high, says 120psi and it will rubs on the brakes.
JB, I want more Compass tyres, I got the Loop Loop, they're excellent, if you can get me the Barlow Pass in all black 650b 42c, I'll forever be in your debt.
My Loop Loop (38mm) have the same thread as my old GB Cypres, plus they're lighter too with what felt like a more supple sidewall.

The more I look and read about the Compass tyres, the more I'm tempted... The 38c should squeeze in under the mudguards on my Cross Check... but I already have tyres... Aghhh!
Will get a burrito and then decide.

Crosscheck can go up to 44c without guard I think, 38c definetly fit.
-
• #6266
Yeah, screw it. Will PM JB.
Reckon it's worth spending the extra $s for the ultra light version?
-
• #6267
That's fine ed, we can sort out money when I give you your stuff back - I'm already in your debt!
Yeahhhhh you won't be sorry andy. PM when you know what you'd like.

I have the ultra light version, thread still have the same thickness, just the casing is more supple.
It work great when you pair it with ultralight inner tube, like the Schwable XX Light that save me a whopping 50g of rotational weight as well as a more supple ride (smallest imperfection on the road will fade away noticeably).
Supple, it roll off my tongue so easily.

Is anyone aware of any options for front wheel stabilisers apart from the VO offering? I vaguely remember seeing someone here had made one themselves, but I may be imagining things.

JB bring ends gangster back, it was rad.

thanks andytk, that looks good but it looks like you need a special braze-on on the underside of the tube that few bikes have

I ran 40c knobbly tyres with mudguards on my Cross Check over the winter and had space left.
I also ran 50c Big Apples and they fit.
The Cross Check has lots of room ;)
