  • How it look OTP;

  • with 650B now:

    campag levers with sram derailleurs? cool!

  • A mid-range Rene Herse Randonneur

  • 1949 Louis Pitard 650B Randonneur, check out the custom rack/mudguard and front derailleur shifter.

    It's the bike where I got the paintjob idea from, except a little low key.

  • Pics of the full bike?

  • There's no bottle cage mount because at the time it was the norms to have clamp-on cages.

    Derailleur are brazed on, the cable is tensioned both way, so you get a precise shift without any lags at all.

    Rear cantilevers are mounted backward for rack clearance.

  • Meant the Rene but could you just do it normally anyway ;)

  • I thought I did, here it is;

  • The Kinesis Decade Tripster seems ideal but Upgrade are sold out. Any suggestion?

    Bump. Disc cross bike with clearance for 650 x 38b with mudguards, available at UK distributor (frame only)?

  • Bump. Disc cross bike with clearance for 650 x 38b with mudguards, available at UK distributor (frame only)?

    I'm not certain, but maybe one of: Soma Double Cross Disc? Kafenback? Something from Singular?

  • Kaffenback springs to mind. A few Genesis models. Surly's new Straggler...

  • New Kaffenback 2 will definitely take 700 x 32mm tyres + guards. Might work with 650 x 38 - I can check tonight.

  • Sorry I read that as 32, not 38. Ignore my last post. (They might take them, but I can't say for sure)

  • Surly Straggler with 650b wheels

  • I wish that hadn't been posted again.

    Must... stop... looking...

  • That's pretty awesome, BB drop should be fine considering it's still higher than my 650B.

    Surly, y no tall headtube?

  • yes, the headtubes are really tiny.

  • I'd like to ride on of those Surly Straggler and an identically spec'd Kaffenback back-to-back.

  • ^ perv

  • That Straggler is pretty nice, but it'll weigh a ton. I actually don't mind the small headtube. I don't really like the unicrown fork on the Genesis Croix de Fer 931, and a carbon one would add a fair bit to my budget. Their Fugio is nice but understandably it has no mudguard mounts as it's a race bike.
    The Kaffenback is a no-no as I need to order via a regular distributor to the trade.
    I might just fork out for a Ti Kinesis...

  • That Straggler is pretty nice, but it'll weigh a ton kilo more than a 1k Ti frame.

    Not ideal for carrying up slopes but is a bike ever light enough at the end of a race?

    At least if should bounce well when dropped. I like it. A lot.

  • Surly, y no tall headtube?

    Ed, y ur arms so short?

  • The Kaffenback is a no-no as I need to order via a regular distributor to the trade.

    Fair enough. For reference though, it will probably just about take 38mm 650B tyres but it'll be tight.

  • The only problem with guards on the straggler is that is has semi horizontal dropouts. pita to get the rear wheel out no?
