CX bike would be put back to use as a CX bike.
I've been thinking about what AndyP says- if you're going to use it for CX, use parts that you can replace the day after you break them without wincing.
That covers the Boardman with Apex, it wouldn't cover a custom made frame with Force (or maybe Red).

Here is a rather inchoate, subject to change and otherwise rambling idea for a new bike:
- 753 frame, geometry as close to my SystemSix as possible (Oak)
- Room for 28c tyres and mudguards, or 32c CX tyres without guards
- Mounts for Disc brake, cable operated groupset (would be Di2 but cannot operate that in thick gloves)
- Tapered steerer
- BSA Bottom bracket
- Full rack and guard mounts, including dynamo light mounting points.
- Whisky 7 carbon disc fork
- Shutter Precision front hub, Hope ProII Evo rear, Mavic TN719 rims, DB spokes
- Rotor cranks with P2M meter
- SRAM Force shifters and mechs
- Hayes cable operated disc brakes
- 3T finishing kit
- Orange and white Penguin paint scheme
The idea being a true year round use bike, one that would see all my winter training miles and rainy day rides.

Hah!
It's not a bike that'll set the world on fire for sure, but it should keep going through the majority of conditions that the UK can throw at it.

It's already a winner in my book.

Sounds like it could be a great build Dammit. Reads more like a full on tourer build, wouldn't you want bigger clearances for tyres if you had full rack mounts? By full I assume you mean front?

An Audax disc-brake bike with a normal bottom bracket drop and normal length headtube.
Seemed like a good idea, mine should be finish by the end of December, or January, don't know.

Ed does yours have disc?

Discussargue.Sounds great (except for the paint of course).
Maybe get dynamo wiring sent inside the fork. Maybe even send the brake cable in there too.

The rack mounts are only there due to the "may as well" principle.
I'm not envisaging ever using them.

I'd be intending on going to the SRAM Red fully hydraulic shifters/brakes as and when they are finally released, so the hydro hose would need to stay on the exterior of the fork I think.

No, it got 650b rear, and 20" front.
So you can climb hill better with a smaller front wheel and rear having the larger rotational mass while keeping the front end nice and twitchy for the descent.
a reverse 69ers if you like.
Very popular in MTB Hillclimb races.
WTF are you talking about?
Hellooo!!? It's Ed!...

My Audax? Nope just centerpull, disc are great but the frame have to be stronger and I want a flexible steel fork.
That and less complication too.
My CX (which I want to replace the frame with a carbon) have disc and it's the child bearer of the stable.

I love my ti audax/road bike but don't like the idea of the drive train getting clogged up and knackered in the winter.
Which leads me to think of what can I do to protect the bike during the winter months?
Few ideas-
Convert the bike to fixed - it does have semi horizontal dropouts so won't be a problem but it's a bit of a pain and would involve cutting cables - possibly? I'd need new cranks/ and wheels - probably brakes too.
Add rust proof/ti components - drive train - don't even know if this is possible.
Scrap all the above and build a fixed frame for winter duties - easily the most costly.
You sure the 3rd option works out more. Certainly not compared to buying Ti components & drive train. Cheap Winter fixed hack bike surely? Build up a really nice one & you'll be back at square one again, with a bike that's too nice for everyday commuting.

What about a On-one Pompino? very cheap and cheerful

Hadnt heard about them before now. Thanks.
^^^^Polo lookalikes thread.
I've got band practice so I'll miss the whole thing... :(
Next week will be a selection headache for Fergie against us.
Probably already in this thread somewhere, but where's best to get trainers fitted?
ps Rule 42 or whatever it is can shove it, running's fun!
they're not 20p.
Two pieces of very good news!

I see some chat about drag from dyno hubs, just out of interest I wonder if anyone knows if a Sturmey Archer dynohub has drag like this?
My legs cannot detect it and so far as I can see, being an electrical switch at the front light (rather than a mechanical thing at the hub - not that I know if this is how Son works?) it should make no difference?

It sounds lovely and if you want a custom build and have the means why not. But TBH your boardman sounds like its already set up for your "all year round training bike" (geo aside). So I'd do the opposite and get a proper second hand cx racing bike and wennie is up with cheap parts. 50mm Chinese carbon tubs, apex, etc.
Dammit - you already have the CX bike?
