The SKS longboard work better in keeping your feet dry, but the normal one doesn't;
Reckon I'll get the SKS Longboard as I know it'll fit the tight clearance better, or risk it with the GB.

When I get a new job, I'm selling my singlespeed 29ers for a fatbike for general MTBing.

Anyone wanting good coverage on the cheap could just use any old plastic guards and attach a looooong DIY mudflap. That's what I did - no spray on my cranks. Not very aero though.

Gilles Berthoud with a custom powdercoat.
Thanks.
Funny reading the above unfold as I immediately got what Ed was getting at with the groves... as I've spent much of my dAy reading up on 'guards. #foreveralone

I spend much longer researching for every single part for my new custom bicycle to make sure every bits and bobs work flawlessly with each other, including the mudguard.
The only thing I haven't research on is dynamo hubs, which I now decided it will have.

^^No.
But also if I'm honest I think you were building up the supsense of what you knew would come across as a random and mysterious comment.
^ and surely it's goin to have to be a SON with your wireless dropouts?

I do often. It's fixed with two brakes, drops and hoods.
The wheels on the Panasonic don't seem like a good idea. Why suffer the impracticality of deep carbon on a fixed training bike? There are no benefits.
But they sound awesome.

Sick fixie!
Is it an indoor bike or do you ride this one?

Found it but it's out of stock balls. Back to the drawing board.
rear stay look quite thin for the rack.

They've got the frame still, for £385.

If I could build it up for £5-600 I probably would. What's the chances?

If you search brands under All City this comes up as in stock, but it's not £550 anymore.

I still say Longboards with Berthoud hardwear is the win.
Ed, I bet you haven't tried that combo yet.I think the majority of mess that SKS and similar fenders make is due to their hardwear design where the bulk of it is on the inside of the fender.
Have you weighed Berthoud stainless fenders? ouch

Yes, 578g including fitting, the Berthoud will never come off the bike as the frame is build round the curve of the mudguard.
600g a small price to pay for longevity and strength, only £30 too.
You're right that the other contributing problem is the fitting are inside allowed the murk to tinkle down from the mudguard to the cassette/derailleur via the stay.

Strong work. Silly commuting wheels ftw.
Sorry but that wasn't how his original post read.
I know what he means though, although I've never had a problem with SKS. Might be because my clearance is tiny.
