The saying "Each to his own" really apply's here, i love it but i know id really prefer gears and mudguards.
The 3 speed fixed hub would be so good on that.

Same tyres as me. My bike is annoyingly stiff so thinking of going fatter next time.

Just to point out he didn't actually with that weight - that was him carrying someone elses panniers and rack as their back wheel broke.

Interested in getting a Sunlite basket. Anybody know where I could get hold of one in the UK? Or even have one to sell? Very similar to the Wald baskets, but the struts are adjustable....
http://www.sunlitecycling.com/product_detail.php?short_code=Medium+Basket&cl1=BASKETS
I've seen them on ebay from US, but the shipping is more than the basket. May end up opting for a Wald and have to drill the struts.

^^ 28/30, indeed, it feels like it could go up the sides of buildings :)

Or is there another, because that one seems a bit short.

I always wondered what baskets they were, definitely a floor in the design of the wald baskets, but i just plan to drill it or try and make my own shorter struts, shouldn't be that hard to do either.

Wow, looks like a lovely touring set up
But mudguards???
It hasn't rain apart from the one day in the pyrenees, it wasn't necessary at the time and I want to keep it less complicated, especially for packing for air flight.
When I get back to England, the frame will be repainted, original wheels back on, steel mudguard and a front small rack.

What do you think fellas? Fits the functional bill right?
(It's tight geometry restricts me to 28c tyres and SKS mudguards but it means with relatively minor tweaking I can use this build for fast road cycling/audax/touring, with a change of tyres/saddle and and at most cassette if I want the 11-28 for slower audax/touring, or tighter range for fast shorter rides)Ignore the shit handlebar bag, it's crap and not practical with my STI levers as it's currently set up. This photo was a mock up to see how it would look really loaded up, I haven't toured on it yet.
And finally, how I mainly use it +/- a smaller saddle bag. I have and QR carradice saddlebag support for this particular bag now. Helps a helluvah lot

Looks good to me!
only things id say is that lock looks a bit sketchy hanging there, id rather put it in one of those panniers and those compact Bontrager would be great on it to.
Bit of duct tape with inner brake cable in it on the ends of the mudguards, makes them a bit longer, a bit bodged but it works

Yeah in practice I haven't used it much like that at all really, after I posted that in current projects as my "audax" set up a lot of forumers pointed out that I really wouldn't need a d lock when audaxing really, and rightly so. I took it off soon after.
I'm currently commuting on it with teh tubus rear rack and one ortlieb pannier so yeah i stick the d lock in there :)
That little weasel bracket works quite well though, but I've only ridden it in that position for a few rides around london, so not an extensive test that's for sure
