  • I think your problem is that the rack eyelets are quite high above the axle due to the dropout design rather than an issue with the rack.

Could mount rack and guards to same eyelet for slight improvement.

  • It's a tortec ultralite, on other bikes it had looked fine. I think the problem is that the eyelets on the frame are much higher (compared to the dropout) than on other frames. I've been trying to find either an adjustable height rack that doesn't look shit or a 26 inch specific rack which may be shorter.

I'll also look at swapping over the mudguard struts and rack mount, but that will require the rack of guard mounts to be spaced out so that they clear each other.

EDIT a bit slow. Yeah they could go on the same eyelet for now. I'd prefer to get in properly sorted. I'm after a black rack anyway.

  • That is quite a tall rack I think. Stuck one on my lady's bike the other day and noticed how it cam up couple of inches taller than the previous one. You might try Tubus if it's not out of the price range, they're usually pretty well sized in my experience.

  • Tubus are handy as well because they have drawings of all their racks with dimension.

    I did find these:

But I'd never heard of the brand. They are apparently a tubus company though and I suppose not much can go wrong with a rack. I just need to throw a tape measure at the current one and see if the 26 inch rack will make much difference.

I was also considering one of these for the front.

    Thanks for the link.
Can we hope that Brooks (I assume the take on that bike was Brooks) sources carefully its leather? I have one of their leather bags, and there's a little text stamped inside the leather lid, explaining that although the bag itself it manufactured in China, the leather comes from England, English cows, etc... Beside the irritating fact that the process involved way too many miles across the globe, am I naive to assume that all Brooks leather products including bar tape are done this way? I bike so considering their prices...
There's also the durability of the product to be considered. I once had the Brooks tape (birthday present from work). I used it onto 3 set of bars, it was really tough, re wrapping was no problem at all. I last used it on my mercian, which I sold couple of years back. I still see the new owner now and then, who seems to commute daily on it, and the tape is still there... We're talking about a 6/7 years old tape here. I don't know how many (environmentally friendly? ) rolls of plastic tape would have been needed instead...
I'm not arguing here really though, I didn't know leather was that bad... I can see this now, but at the same time I'm still a bit unsure whether plastic would've considerably better.
I have successfully used cotton tape and shellac and it's the only durable and considerably cheaper alternative to leather I found so far. It's mad strong, I love it, but it's not a look for every bike... I personally don't mind, but people always say it's not comfy enough...

Edit/confession: I still have in my box some uninstalled Brooks tape. Was on sale for twenty pounds at the design museum (don't ask me why) and I had to buy it...

  • Would this not throw your indexing out of whack every time you changed a rear tube? I imagine it would be quite hard to get the hangar back in the exact same alignment it was in before.

  • Point regarding the durability is a good one.

Perhaps someone from Brooks / Sella Royal is reading...

  • m:part ridge rack has height adjustment.

  • Orange fort on the top of the page is so so sweet. Any more pics @Aches?

  • Sick clearances, bro.

  • Isn't that just a cross bike with a tall stack?
Sort of a Fred cross, MAMIL cross or whatever.
    Where's the functional funk?

Edit: I see the bottle cages, but not sure if thay make it more functional or more Fred dentist.

  • well its pulling a trailer so kinda works. solid commuter init

  • Clearances aren't that big with those tires, just has wheelbase for days.

  • My Trek 920 on a quick weekend trip. I have to say I quite like the bike.

  • That looks great. Dang...should have got one when I had the chance.
