Oh and which vehicles are exempt, IMO the worst particulate producers? Busses and taxi's
Your opinion on this matter conflicts with the actual data.

Remove the exemption for electric cars as they still produce CO2 just at a power station, not out of an exhaust.
Yep, they're still another selfish fucker in a car.
Carpooling discounts like in the US perhaps?

I can't believe hybrids are Exempted, the new ford mondeo has the same emmissions as the prius, so surely either modern cars should also be exempt or hybrids shouldn't be.

My dad's car is exempted from the CC, yet he still end up riding his bike to and from work.
His way of persuading his work colleague to ride to work is to simply show them a way to enjoy the most out of their motorised vehicle.
The first obvious point is that in order to enjoy driving his car in the weekend/make long trip/etc. he simply choose not to drive to work, and thereforth be able to tell the insurance company that he only drove 5,000 miles a years instead of the usual 11,000 miles (6,000 miles a years on commuting) and able to get his insurance cheaper base on that, and not just that but enough money save on tube/petrol.
That mean his car will remand in good running order for years to come, less need to change part (wear and tear), cheaper to run, less chance of getting into a collison etc.
If we want people to stop using their cars for unnecessary trip, just show them how to make the most out of their car, rather than getting them out of it sounding like an eco-warrior.

Hybrids shouldn't be, and neither should electric cars. It's just greenwash.

cunts with a big petition clipboards and loudhailer getting ridiculous numbers of signatures to abolish the western CC today on portobello rd. Tourists signing etc.
I went for a chat with them and listened to their pitch, then when I said I didn't want to sign I got abused for 'wasting their time' (all of a minute or two).
They had the same old lines of 'people vising their families' 'what about the struggling small businesses' etc etc.

By the nature of the journeys diesel bus (don't know about the hydrogen ones) and taxi engine are used in stop start driving conditions for many hours a day. Hence produce more than a car say running for its two hour commute.
Also engines are at their most efficient at constant revs and with movement (so energy converted to motion and not lost with the vehicle sitting still.
Edit- This seems so wrong to me agreeing to this, but can't see the point of commuting in a car, think the bike is better and you get excercise instead of driving to the gym.

The figures you want to read are up the thread somewhere.
A bus transports many hundreds/thousands of people around all day. A car? Fuck all.
Since there exist bus lanes, buses and taxis most likely stop/start less than a car in traffic. -

Have you tried getting in touch with paypal?
Objected the other day when it first went back up, suggested extension to m25 as well.
The propsed area(up to ken/chelsea) and out to the city should have a higher rate again. £10 within the m25 and £30 within current area.
I would like to see a reduced rate for essential business use though. As has been said above some of us cannot work without trucks and vans, maybe link cost to annual turnover? HR Owen and Selfirdges will therefore pay a fuckload as they should and ol' Bill the window cleaner who's earning f-all pays his fair share as well. Probably impossible to implement effectively.
Like the idea of a prohibitively high rate around schools.
