Ken, if you're reading this you really need to at least respond to people and say what the issue is or when you will sort it out. It's just not acceptable to lurk away and leave people feeling like they are being mugged off, and it will stop a lot of people from wanting to trade with you ever again, me included.
Sort it out.
Thanks @über_grüber
Look, what has happened with my trading with @NorthLondonLight is annoying and disappointing, but also trivial and inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. If he is having a hard time elsewhere then I really do hope that he is OK and stays on the straight and narrow.
I'd publicly like to say to him that what happened matters not a jot at this stage. If he had PM'd me to say sorry but that he couldn't sort things, then that would have been it ..... My mailbox is always open to him to get in touch.
I hope that the guy is out on a bike somewhere, the wind in the hair always has a refreshing effect .........I'm moving on.

I think Hilary Stone is a...
Well, I paid (quite a lot of money) for a frame, the wrong one turned up, and I had to store it for two months before he finally replied to my letters and gave me a return address. All it took was a thread of court action to which he curtly replied 'You get your refund when I get the frame back'.
Perhaps he has changed since then.

That is certainly unlawful, although not on LFGSS so less directly relevant. The stories of poor service/contactability however would put me off a purchase either here or from his store.

Buying from him is a total lottery afaik. Closest I've got is inquiring about items a couple of times and getting no response - I took that as a warning.

I bought a frame from Hilary Stone and it arrived yesterday, having paid on monday so i was pretty happy with that...
(although it was a frame that he'd outbid me for on ebay at the last second, selling on for a tasty profit. so a slightly begrudging purchase)

I am not really happy writing on this thread but I had a unpleasant experience with the member 'walkmanman' (Sigmund) who wished to buy a pair of look pedals from me for £7. He came from Peckham yesterday lunch time to pay/collect and asked him if you was after anything else and ended up buying more items bars and stem, flat pedals and chain rings which came to £42, but forgot about the pedals as he had put them in his bag. I had completely forgotten about them and text him this morning if I could have the £7 for the pedals. He claims that he bought in bulk and that I had thrown in the pedals free. This is not all the case and never ever mentioned this at all. I got some negative texts back stating that was the deal and basically don't expect me back to buying anything else from you. I stated that there was no issue from my side to which he was negative about the situation in his reply… If I am in the wrong and have to eat humble pie then so be it…. I am far from perfect like anyone else but taken aback by this members attitude who seemed perfectly pleasant at the time... just goes to show I was wrong... totally out of order and unfair!

Interesting: I've just sold him a seatpost.
As usual I asked for an additional 4% if PP Buyer Protection was required.
He paid promptly enough, but stiffed me on the charges: paying "goods" but not adding the extra to cover the fees.
I pointed this out and got a rather terse reply, which suggested he didn't understand the difference between "gift" and "goods" as I had only mentioned "buyer protection".
It's only a matter of pence and I haven't pursued it, but all things considered I will be cautious in any future dealings.

Sorry to hear that Scilly Suffolk... I generally like to keep out of confrontational matters, but this member doesn't have principles and didn't mention anything about the pedals when I was adding up (maybe he genuinely forgot too)... Well I suppose he stuffed both of us! Beware! Best! cc

^^^ You can't exactly accidentally pay goods - it's more complex than paying gift and is clear that it has added protection.
I'd have kept the post until the full bill was settled - pence or not pence, it's dickery

Scilly, d'yu reckon that charging for protection contravenes rules?
"PayPal transactions must include buyer protection (sellers are not allowed to demand that money be sent as a "Gift" as this deprives the buyer of any form of protection on their payment)."
Honest question, not having a dig. It's another fairly unclear rule - the bold bit implies you simply can't use gift pp, but the "gist" is more that you mustn't insist on it...

I post everything except freecycle stuff recorded and adequately insured.
I don't charge for the recorded/insurance element, as this is for *my *benefit and not the buyer's. If something goes astray or is damaged en route, then it is my responsibility to claim from the carrier, as it me (not the buyer) who has entered into a contract with them.
With this in mind, I think it is entirely reasonable to expect the buyer to bear the cost of "buyer protection", for obvious reasons.
The rule could do with clarification, because it is ambiguous as to whether PP BP is obligatory or not (I seem to remember raising the point in the mods thread); however the issued of who should bear the cost isn't addressed at all and, as explained above, I feel comfortable charging the beneficiary of the protection.
I was about to refund the underpayment, when I learned that PP only refund their variable fee and not their fixed fee: ie it would have cost me not to receive anything and possibly lose the sale altogether...

Need an opinion people, i bought a stem from someone on the forum, it was a bargain and i thought i was getting a good deal, i paid with paypal and it was then posted.
Turned up just now and it has a dent in it (it's a steel quill) and is in rough condition with scratches, this wasn't mentioned in the listing, the listing was essentially "steel quill - £price"
Would i be wrong to want my money back and the cost of postage return? i reckon a fuss would be kicked up with the latter bit, i have a paypal protection so the first bit should definitely be possible
May I suggest
