Yep, PayPal for goods - both seller and buyer can count on some sort of protection and use the provided tools for solving any dispute which can possibly arise.
Send/accept as a gift when you know each other or when you trust someone enough, because of their good reputation etc.

Just asking about receiving a paypal gift and then having the money reversed. like that guy with the wheel last year. I just dont want to mail a bike and then have the buyer reverse the paypal gift.
bank transfer would be best i'm learning. -

No fees, withdrawal bother in a bank transfer. For larger amounts of money or ease I would always go bank transfer. If they kick up a fuss, tell them to politely HTFU!

Just a word of warning against an eBay seller Primocycles:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/primocycles/
I paid for a new set of the SKS mudguards two weeks ago and received fuck all.
No communication whatsoever.
Now I've checked their feedback. Fuuuuuuuuuuu! -

^no items for sale - maybe ebay are investigating
-
• #1407
Yes, strange - they had loads of mudguards and Brooks saddles for sale.

On the planet x front the only bad experience I've had was ordered a chainset with BB from them, chainset came without BB... called them and asked what was going on, got it the next day.
It seems they've dropped the ball of late...

Now I've checked their feedback. Fuuuuuuuuuuu!

Not necessarily a bad trader, just pretty fucking annoying.

Planet X actually stepped up the game and their customer support rung me today with apologies.
There's a hope for them.

I bought a pair of wheels from Skylark months and months ago now.
I only used them a couple of times- I bought them to use on the turbo really, but then couldn't be bothered to change wheels when it was turbo time, and then it the weather got nicer.
So, run twice on a turbo and then stored.
I decided to list them here and Harry Major called dibs, he came over earlier.
Now he did what I should have done- checked them over properly.
The front rim is worn from braking, not a show stopper but enough for him to comment.
However the rear hub bearings were extremely rough- enough for Harry to politely walk away.
The wheels were sold to me as being in good used condition, so I contacted Skylark who basically said "not my problem, too long ago, you probably did it".
Caveat Emptor.

He comes to me 4 months later with complaints.
He saw the wheels in person prior to purchase and gladly accepted them.
Silly.

• #1414
I popped out of the office to grab them- I didn't inspect them, I trusted you.
It was a long time ago, no question.
However- you are saying that using them twice on the turbo wrote off the rear hub?
Because if so they were hardly in great condition, were they?
-
• #1415
I know what I sold you. What you're claiming is just BS, intentional or not.
-
• #1416
I've got what you sold me right here- happy to drop it into a shop (BC springs to mind) and get them checked over independantly.
You are lying, put simply.
You ripped me off, and I am advising people not to buy from you because of that.
-
• #1417
Yes say more in public than you can deal with me in person. You're a rotten buyer.
-
• #1418
So- you are not up to the wheels being inspected by a mechanic then?
-
• #1419
No response?
No surprise.
No great loss if you get banned, I think.
-
• #1420
I trust Dammit's opinion and he's not a bloke who'd go around lying about the condition of the wheels.
-
• #1421
that would be a serious time warp
-
• #1422
Wrong link, dammit, it wasn't this was it?
skylark, you set the alarm bell ringing with this claim of a "very little used" wheels that actually look worn to fuck (picture has been removed, but it show irregular brakes wear on the rims).
-
• #1423
Those are the ones- Feb, so it was quite some time ago for sure.
-
• #1424
The rims look a bit worn, when you run your finger on the braking surface, is it flat or concave?
-
• #1425
Ed, seriously, why are you here? Leave it to Dammit and Skylark.
Don't paypal as a gift unless you know/trust the person you're sending money to/being sent money.
I use paypal if it's easier for the buyer but I always prefer a bank transfer.
