  • I know some of you forumengers go to KCL, and CTML and I were talking about starting a cycling society (or sports club?). LSE, UCL and Imperial have things going on, we need to get on it! I'm not sure which would be better/more appropriate, info on starting a society is here. There is also a facebook group here.

I guess we need specific goals but the idea is to get a regular ride going, promoting cycling to other students, encouraging safer cycling, meeting other cyclists, getting better facilities? What is your input/would you be interested in joining?

  • If they are Kings students remember to pitch it at the low end of the spectrum; lots of diagrams and easy to follow instructions.
You might want to consider being mentored by a club from a real college.

Kings is awesome! Went there in the 90's for my degree (Strand campus)

Really enjoyed living on the Kings Road as well :)

  • will went there but is bitter because he got a degree and all he ended up with was a lousy curryer job

    D:

but that was in the 50's

  • If my daughter screws up her 'A' levels and gets AAB as opposed to AAA, she will be going to King's. I will instruct her to join you.

  • What? why does KCL always get pinned down as being the 'rejects' university, thats Exeter FFS

For those interested i've create a facebook group, please join.....even if you're not from KCL

  • I thought UCL was where the 'rejects' ended up. Ah well. If you're Strand campus, I work next door, somewhere just visible under some courtyard or something. Will keep an eye out for any vaguely forummy looking bikes.

    AAB screwing up....driven parents eh?

  • seems pretty easy to start a society/club

Getting the ball rolling is easy, click the link to download the application form, fill it in and send it over to Kevin Cheshire. If your proposed society has the potential to attract 25 paid members and does not overlap with any of our existing groups then you'll be invited to a meeting to start the process of ratification.

After assessing your application it may be the case that your society would be best suited as a campaign group, club or volunteering project and we will forward your details onto the appropriate member of staff and begin to take your activity forward together.

matt (CTML) - are we planning on systems go for september?

No, if she gets AAA, she's off to Exeter. King's is where she goes if the exams don't go so well.

  • AAB screwing up....driven parents eh?

No, demanding entrance boards. She has 8A*s and 2As at GCSE but was still rejected by three universities to which she applied to read English.

  • All that education and she can only read English.

    Tut tut.

  • fucking hell. i was predicted AAA and got it and was turned down by bristol...but now i get to abuse befriend associate with you all.

i was about to say clive, tell her how great london is but i guess she already lives here so knows/disagrees...

  • Writing is now post grad.

I think that she would prefer to go to Exeter partially because it is not London and she will have more independence there. Also, it has a very good English department. She doesn't much like Exeter itself but she has only visited once. She comes with inherited prejudices concerning provincial places.

i think they are entirely justified for young people. i am back at my parents and killing myself with boredom. what do you do in a village of 1800 people? get drunk and fap. not that that's what i didn't do in london. but there was less old people.

Yeah if she applied to Oxbridge... And if she didn't make it in, she was liable to get fucked over by the remaining uni choices as they don't want the image of picking up oxbridge rejects (they know because ucas applications had to be submitted before Oct 15th). Oh and For the record, KCL is ranked higher than exeter for English. Either way ucas is frustrating and life is never fair.

Josh, yeah i'd be up for making it official however i'm already VP for another society so won't be able to spearhead this one - though i'm guessing you're up for it? I'll try to get more of my friends involved as well.

  • ok - i have no experience of societies as i didn't join any this year.

  • only pulling your leg Clive, I was in a similar situation myself not too long ago.

However if she was to get AAB, Exeter might still accept her on the strength of her interview, personal statement and in which subjects she gets the grades as they have already offered her the place.

Such was my case; I dropped a grade in two subjects and still got a place at my first choice.

  • Start a proper cycling club? your members will then get benefits of BC membership, including insurance for those drunken crashes ;)

  • not that that's what i didn't do in london. but there **was less **old people.

    "were fewer".

    cheers, will look into it

  • CMTL, she didn't bother with Oxbridge. Edinburgh, UCL and Bristol didn't want her - their loss. (I blame Plurabelle, quite unfairly, for the UCL decision. ;o) ). She chose Exeter over Kings as she decided after applying to UCL and Kings that she would prefer to study outside London. Still Exeter with Kings as a banker is not a bad position to be in.

Alexsi, I hope you are right but entrance this year is the worst on record. Loads more applicants and now fewer places and also people not going on gap years and all applying at once. She should get AAA based on her AS levels and coursework. Fingers firmly crossed.
