problem with that is brendo, that during tournament season we want to be able to commit to going to tournaments without disrupting our fixtures.

What sort of level are you, and whereabouts are you based?

no need to break, tournaments are only a weekend.
-
• #285
yeah, an there were no tourneys during the last league, and it finished 3 months late.
-
• #286
because of weather, snow, rain, volume of people and slack commitment. nothing to do with tournaments.

blasted nursery thing... help please gabes...

gabes, if we decided that the league started later and finished later, then the middle of it would be when the days are longer, the weather is better and thus any tournaments that were coming up rather than finding time for team night, you would just play your league fixtures as practise. Any congestion would be negated by the length of the day and the weather inherent for the spring / summer season. How many more hours of polo do you play in summer than winter? Much more. And we are talking about a maximum of 45 mins commitment a fortnight. I dont see a problem.

yes, we play more in summer, granted. Suggest it in the format thread in the LPC.

personally i like the idea of keeping the main (everyone in) london league on during just the winter months...cos 1) there are less opportunities for competitive team play and it keeps people motivated to play polo during the winter months...which is what i thought the point was 2) summer gets busy with other commitments + long polo tourney weekends.
B, don't see what is wrong with doing team or 'high octane' nights during the summer just to keep up tourney fitness.
But if the winter league can finish end of march/early april...perhaps we could then do a mini quick strike summer league (8 teams max) between May - Aug to promote competitive team polo in prep for tourneys. Just an idea...Im happy with year calendar being summer of uk and international tourneys, winter of league.

i love playing polo i have no need to be motivated, i just dont like having to play a game when its pissing down or icy. It dosnt reflect a true competitive game. plus starting a little later means we will undoubtedly get more teams in the league.
-
• #294
Or run a winter league and summer cup comp?
-
• #295
I agree with Mat. Also agree with the need for High Octane nights for pre-tournament practice for the main teams (as long as they don't interfere too much with throw-in nights or prevent the players away from playing with all level players as well)
-
• #296
B, when do you want the league to start? Sorry if you posted it already, I think I missed it.
-
• #297
please please can we not call them "high octane" whatever we do
-
• #298
^ Yep.
Is "high octane" (I prefer hardcore) just a team night or is it full contact aggro style that the yanks had me believe? I'm in either way.

• #299
cam, it will be a mix between polo leg war and polo oympics...reckon you'd be good.

B, just polo motivates me too...but if the weather is poor outside and i know i have to make a fixture it will make me commit even more to playing.
However, if the weather really puts one off from playing, its possible to arrange fixtures under better conditions even during winter. Even last year with a lot of snow and rain, I only remember 1 of our fixtures that was really effected by bad weather and that was against beards on a flooded mitch. Other than that we just dealt with it.
For cosmic this summer was filled with way more competitive tournies than last year (almost felt every other week)...personally i think it would have been hard to fit a full league season in there too. We all need a little bit of a polo breather.
But if we can get the league going from sept - april latest with a 2 - 3 week xmas/new year break, it would be a good seasons length.
Re. new teams forming, waiting till after the summer for the league to start makes sense as it means most new players have had a summer of throwins and sub team tournies to get a bit up to polo speed + old teams have broken up. Now and September is the transfer window.
i know its a 'winter' league but i think that playing competitive games when tournament 'season' is on will serve us well.
