[QUOTE=Regents Park Hour of Power
The Route, Anticlockwise.Thursdays,1830hrs at the gate opposite York Bridge for an hour of speedy pedalling/pedestrian avoidance.
20mph+ average, but if you can't hold on, worry not! Lap times are between 1:30 and 1:45 so you won't have long to wait until the train comes around again, just hop on the back and keep on pedalling.
Possible slow lap after 10 miles for a bit of a chat and a gulp of water, but not for long. Stop at 1930hrs or 20miles, whichever comes sooner (it'll be the 20 miles)
Option to wind down on the outer circle after with the Rollapaluzas (I think) or bugger off to the Edinboro Castle for some carbo loading/calorie recovery. The List:

- FridayMarch26th
- blind unpopular dan
- Dommyracer
6.pt - pascalo
Out on this one, very tired and too busy anyway. Sorry:(

A quick bump to see if anyone's still up for tonight?
Some shit has come up in my life, and while I most definitely need to work it out of my system, I'm in two minds as to whether it would be best done at the park or a pub. -
• #81
I'm out, had a beer and all watching the tour, now it's windy, and I bonked on my way back from training earlier not having eaten enough ... in other words, I'm a wuss.
I'll go for a drink with you if you fancy. Montague arms? -
• #82
I was there. It was good, but lonely. Pretty windy too. 21.9mph avg. Stopped at the end and Friday whizzed past. Waited for him to come round again, but I think he'd flown off into the evening sky, E.T. style. Same again next week.

Last winter I did quite a few of this "lonely" riding in there, when you're pushing and keeping yourself at the top to be alone is not so bad... to go around in the inner it's just a training anyway..
But the wind is shit.

^Awigh' boss. I spotted your aeros as I was coming to the end of the hour; though in truth you'd probably reached home by the time I'd made it back around. It was certainly reassuring to see that someone had remembered to bring their bicycle to work.
I'd had a late start due to a difficult client calling at a difficult time and engaging in a difficult conversation; though my subsequent frustration added speed to the journey out of the office. A few good bits were encountered, including another late burst of energy (that was being entered into as I passed Mr Pt); though I ended up slower than the previous week, on 21.3mph.
I'm now beside a poached egg sandwich, and a coffee I bought what has ground up figs in it.
Same next week then.
Fingers crossed I'll pick up a new bike Saturday. I'm a little bit excited.

hells yeah to the sandwich, the coffee, the next week and most definitely the new bike. nicey nicey. geared? fixed? shiny?
-
• #88
Geared and shiny. Having spent portions of the last few weeks dotting around the South East, investigating bikes, exposing my lack of knowledge, and being patronised, I finally decided upon what I'd tried last Friday: An Enigma Effusion.
It felt pretty bloody smart, so much so that I was reluctant to return it to the showroom ("How long should a test ride be?"). It's not super racey (it is *slightly *racey), but it's lovely and smooth, which offers useful reassurance to it's neurotic rider.
Figured I'd get a bike to suit my current enthusiasm. Can't f'ing wait.

Haha pascalo'll be pleased you went for enigma. and what a lovely bike it is. you going to be running mudguards on this one too? :P
-
• #90
I'll mebe give the mudguards a miss this time; though it'll obviously take a *lot *of getting used to.
-
• #91
Pleased? I'm fecking jealous!
-
• #92
Ello,
Just to say that I'll be out on Regent's Park for an hour (or so) this Thursday. It'll be the first test of new bike (with correct gearing), on a familiar route with an eye on the pace.
-
• #93
I was thinking of taking this week off as a little rest before the Dunwich, but if you're there I may pop up for a half session to ogle the new machine...
-
• #94
I know what you mean.
Thursday's my only opportunity to give the new bike a test before committing to anything risky on it (Dunwich). As it is I've got a couple of nights enforced rest, I have to spend the next two evenings on a train in order to make the journey to and from Enigma in Sussex. That said, perhaps it's best to keep this Thursday to an investigative jaunt, rather than anything worth advertising. I'll be there whatever, it's only the pace that may vary.
Interesting stuff about taking the DD at speed. 20mph all the way down the line? Crikey.

Possibly all talk, but it's definitely viable. Sasmon's thinking the same so we might have a nippy train thing going on. I'd rather give it a go and burn out 40 miles from the end than not try it at all.
And it definitely makes sense to give the bike a go before you attempt anything epic. Even with a ride under your belt, some niggles (or not!) will inevitably surprise you after the first 40–60mile proper outing. -
• #96
Let me know when the train's departing and I'll try and hang off the back for a bit. For a bit.
-
• #97
yeah. i'll, erm, hang off the back as well. or rather, stay in the middle and suffer but not do anything to help pull it along....i'm interested in pushing myself rather than pootling along at 10 mph.
-
• #98
Yeah will do. I'll send out a mass-PM on the Thursday once I've got everything together. Despite the apparent take no prisoners attitude, I think with everyone doing their bit (going to force Friday to the front, but damo, you're excused) it should be [relatively] painless.
If you guys want anything at the end of the ride that you can't be bothered to carry up there (food, warm clothes etc.) I'm leaving a car up there Friday night – if you get it to me by Friday morning I'll drive it up for you so it's ready upon arrival. I'm taking a blanket and some sandwiches. maybe lots of sandwiches. and some normal clothes, so I don't get too cold waiting around on the beach. That sort of thing. Unfortunately there's no room in the car for a ride home though, but the forum's sorted everyone out on that front. -
• #99
Hmm, pretty sure I am too lame for a fast run over that distance. Guess I'll see you when I get there :(

Mebe I'm due a couple of days off.
Trial run of new bike occurred yesterday evening, having collected it from my sainted father in Tunbridge wells. I initially figured on riding to Sevenoaks, before boarding a train back to the smoke; though by the time I hit my destination an adrenalin leak had forced a change of plan. The better option *obviously *be to rattle all the way back home.
It was a surreal ride, featuring a Kentish puncture that would have scuppered me had it not been for a chance encounter with a pub full of mountain bikers, a prolonged stretch of darkness through countryside with only a commuter light for company, and a genuinely thrilling last leg into an empty London. I arrived home late, my girlfriend having let herself in (and fallen asleep) some time before.
You'll prolly not find me at Regent's Park this evening, but by the look of this thread you'll not find anyone else, either.
"forgot"
right. ...
