Tempted to lash on the new SPOKK and come out for a lap or two but alas no, I shall await it's grand unveiling till I've tidied it up and refurbed the paint.

Was windy today so don't beat yourself up about it.

Was a ghost town out there today. Must have done 6 laps without seeing a single group of cyclists.

As an aside, to anyone who knows anything about heart rates. I used one for the first time today and managed Avg 183 - 223 Max over an hour. Does that seem unusually high?
-
• #4713
Depends on your age, physical condition and heart rate at rest really, if you want to be pedantic about it. Good numbers though, presuming you didn't experience any serious discomfort or chest pain.
-

27years old. Resting heart rate is usually 55-60. No chest pain. Just surprised to see such high numbers.

Heart rate is highly variable for the reasons given by Lynchman and many others (lactate threshold, VO2 Max, anaerobic threshold, hydration)
The only worth from a Heart rate monitor is to know your base level first - age is used a rule of thumb but you need to undertake a full V02 test really.. but this base level will change with training and even day to day with mood/sniffles.
Measuring HR also gives you little information of your cycling as its just a reactive output.
Cycling fast = High Heart rate which is good
but just having a high heart rate could just be a sign your unfit. This is why people spend £1000s on Power meters
As I can't afford one, I just cycle to feel now and let my heart do its own thing. -

The numbers are fine, though your maximum heart rate is somewhat above average, bearing in mind that your maximum heart rate starts to slow down from about 2 years of age. Expected maximum heart rate for a young man your age i.e. average maximum heart rate for a man your age group is somewhere around 190-200 while it can vary quite a bit from person to person. Presuming for the sake argument you're otherwise healthy with normal blood pressure and so on, there's absolutely nothing to worry about.*

Personally i'd love to see such high numbers.. I can barely get my HR above 150 going flat out.
180... id be close to passing out.
Joe Friel covers the problem here and basically says not to worry - high or low
http://www.joefrielsblog.com/2011/03/high-heart-rate-questions.htmlI concentrate on my strengths which is distance and not high heart rate sprinting but its much of a muchness - everyone is different but thats why its such a poor measure of fitness and not widely used anymore.
Anyone who just bought a HR monitor does not want to hear this.
The RAF triathlon club have put together a good document on trainning to HR tho (lifted from Joe Friel)

Could be correct, but might be worth replacing the battery if you bought it second hand
