  • sort of... it depends how long a stem you put on ;)

CHAS ROBERTS ROAD FRAME Reynolds 531 1994
    Seat Tube (ctt): 52cm (20.5in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 53.5cm (21in)
    Rear dropout width: 130mm
    Wheel size: 700C
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Brake drop with 700C wheel: 45mm

  • If it's going to be an 'all-weather' bike, surely you want clearances for full mudguards and 25s?

  • I'd need it to be considerably bigger also.

    It looks nice though.

  • Layback seatpost and 150mm stem innit.

  • Off the back of Smallflurry's advice, I've had a browse of the PX site.

If I'm going for a alu frame, am I likely to get a better deal than the Planet X SL Team Alu Frame @ £150?

I'm also half tempted by the Planet X Pro Carbon @ £360. However, if I'm venturing into that price bracket, I feel that there are more options, albeit probably not cárbon.

  • Forks from PX are £99....

  • I've got a set of Eastons. But I take your point.

But it is triple-butted T, which doesn't seem to be used for anything other than lower end frames. Weight = 1.4kg. Seems ok.

    hummm...

  • Dammit.

Could you aford that sexy Casati thats all over every issue of C+ (a friend tells me). £2k

You want something for bad weather. If you're only training in the sun take the nice bike.

  • In a word, no.

  • Any second hand alu Canyon frames about? According to most excellent PRO cycling blog INRNG Philippe Gilbert won Amstel Gold and Tour of Lombardy on the F8 Ultimate AL frame which is 800 Euro F+F

  • In a word, no.

Personnaly I would'nt go with steel for a training bike. Getting out in all weather is hard enough work without worrying about wiping down your bike after every wet ride.

A standard Ribble winter trainer would do me fine.

(not as nice as the casati though is is)

  • I've started to lust after that Cannondale cyclocross bike again.

  • £669.95 for the SRAM equiped version- even comes with mud guards.

  • Is it really necessary to be subjected to endless internet window shopping and associated consumer daydreaming? Just sort something out, and post about it when it's finished/you've ridden it, if you want to share something.

  • Thanks for the info mdcc_tester and hugo7. I will keep checking ebay and hopefully i will get lucky. those tips were great as well, thanks again.

Well, yeah... kinda. It's certainly helping me. I'm looking for a geared road bike right now and this thread is being immensely helpful, without me having to ask daft questions.

It's pretty much helped me decide on searching for a second hand, quality aluminium/alloy frame with a shimano groupset of around 105 level. And with a top tube of around 55cm... If anybody has anything!

  • Whoopee.

  • ^The drizzle today made someone grumpy?

Mechanic have that at work, upgraded from his old Giant steel frame that was a little too long for him, it look pretty good and nice to ride.

  • Bloke ... look pretty good and nice to ride.

Ummm... you talking about the bike right?

  • Best place for second hand bikes is CyclingWeekly classifides surely.

Know zilch about it. But the spec's tick all the boxes.
