  • Hey gregor - good news :)

sorry about not replying to your PM - bit behind on my personal communication at the moment. Will reply and work out a date for beer tonight.

  • nice one-look forward to it.

The Merckx looks pretty stunning-would be tempted mesel' if I had the readies.

  • If anyone is looking for good deals on groupsets try getting in touch with seller KSL300 or bettyoch2207 who are both a guy called Michael who is up in Hackney and just sorted me out with 2011 Ultegra cheaper even than crazy Belgian promo price + shipping on previous page.

Also been recommended on BR a while ago for cheap Campagnolo and components.

  • So "a guy called Michael who is up in Hackney and just sorted me out" with some good gear. Nice to see the borough living up to its reputation.

  • Also MrSmyth has a good point, about having some spacers, for flexability of position.

i'm actually implying something else. get rid of the extra spacers. one small one above headset. and a tiny one above stem and a head-tube to get the right bar height (you can play with stem angle too) it's going to make the front end stiffer.
loads of spacers = potential movement

I wasnt recommending a stack. But having none, means if you switch to bars with less drop, you're stuck.

  • You just get a negative rise stem; or some inverse spacers.

He just droppped it off to me; full retail packaging not a bin bag of OEM parts either :)

  • I remember the olden days when you had to go into the back room of a news agent's shop in Bognor to score cheap Campag.

  • Halcyon days....

  • went for new bike consultation with Scherrit today - was great. I can highly recommend it.

Dispelled some myths, taught me a lot, fed me great coffee, listened to me crap on about bikes, and then told me that despite being tall I actually need a small-ish frame —*54/55 rather than the 56/57 I currently ride. Got long legs and a short body.

Oh and he has a lovely dog.

So, will await my recommendations from Scherrit and let you know.

  • fettle is awesome

will be interesting to see what he suggests for you.

long legs, short body - ladies shopper?

  • Inverse stem

  • Or inverse top tube.

Huh.. I've got short legs and I was thinking of sizing down for the next bike. Shows what I know.

it depends on the seat angle ,you can put a short legged person on a small frame but use a steep seat angle and a long legged person with loads of seat pin showing but use a shallow seat angle

  • I guess it depends what the geometry of the frame is.

  • it depends on everything.
shape, size, geometry, stem length, intended use, flexibility etc etc.

  • I have long legs, should I buy a Colnago EPS for tricks or something from BLB?

colnago. the decals peel off for stealth carbon shizzle.

  • Got long legs and a short body.

Out of interest, how long and how short? I'm similarly gifted physically, but feel happiest on a bike with a long seat tube and 5cm or so less top tube.

How do I multi-quote? Dov has lovely legs.

  • Um, I will have to get back to you about that - I'm approx 5'11" and I have an inside leg of about 34". I need a 54/55 top tube - nearer to 54 though I think if I want a decent stem length. Will see what Scherrit sends me (didn't write down my measurements yesterday).

  • Dan, thanks, thats enough to go on. I'm doing home work on getting a new frame, and I'm not much taller than you.

  • apparently i have disproportionately long femur bones.. which would be why I find public transport so bloody uncomfortable :)

  • No pressure Dan, but a disproportionately long femur has been recognised in the sport as one of the things you need to be a great champion, as the likes of Coppi, Anquetil, Merckx, Indurain et al all had this characteristic.
