  • What do you think? Are 42mm tyres bang on 42mm wide, i.e. is the measurement outermost lug to outermost lug, or is it the carcass of the tyre, and lugs are additional?

Thats brilliant Dammit. Measured the tyres in question, and they are 41mm in width lug to lug. I have them mounted on wide 29er XC rims which flattens the profile, and moves the lugs slightly away from the sideway.

So if I dont go for ultimate utility with a Peregrine or a Vaya. I could get something faster feeling like that Boardman (only want frameset though), and still run proper ice tyres (the main issue being the 100 notes they cost).

    Now I'm really confused.

Anyway....road bikes. One for the shorties out there. Its already deen mentioned, and Cinelli are'nt making fans of late. But I really like this at under £900.

  • I like that Cinelli...

  • I like them apart from that darn experience decal.

  • I kept thinking that this said Cinelli when in hopsital last:

  • awaits pic of Dammits foot

  • aweights pic of Dammits foot

    .

  • It's my Gran actually, her kidneys have stopped working.

  • Bugger. Sorry to hear that.

I shall remove my piss taking self, to elsewheres.

I shall remove my piss taking self

I see what you did there.

  • Bugger, again.

  • No worries, slightly unfair of me to drop that one on you. I apologise also.

I first saw those signs when we were visiting Fiddy in hospital- with him nearby the temptation to read the signs as Cinelli was almost overwhelming.

  • Thanks for all the advice earlier, I've made my decision and put a deposit down on a Scott CR1 Pro.

Cannondale cyclocross bike used for road riding, commuting, touring (Southern Vietnam, Normandy, Baltics, Sardinia among other places) and a couple of cyclo cross races. I possibly would have been better off with a specialist bike for any one of the above tasks but it fills all the above quiet comfortably. Thing to remember with CX bikes is the more upmarket you go, the less likely you are typically to get things like rack mounts if you're going the off the shelf route.

  • Can anyone offer a view on the Condor Barrachi?

Used my SS CX bike as only bike for last 18 months. However, that still doesn't mean any comments I make will be any more valid that the usual crap I come out with

  • ^^ Last time I read a review, I think the summary was; "good, but for the money you could do better". Which I guess is a bit like a lot of Condor bikes - they're nice, but not cheap.

Your best bet is to just go and try one. That's the one of main advantages of Condor bikes, they have a shop you can go into. Plus your bike is fitted.

  • Can anyone offer a view on the Condor Barrachi?

I am very happy with mine, find it comfortable and the quality high. I luckily found one second hand so I avoided the pain of Condor pricing (but can't comment on the service you get for a new build there). It had only been ridden once by the previous owner, so was effectively new. If you search this thread for Condor you will find a pic of mine probably in March.

  • OK, so I'm looking for something £1500-£1700 mark. Carbon. Nippy but comfortable.

Condor Barrachi v Canyon Ultimate CF 8.0 v Colnago Ace

    Condor Barrachi - Veloce / Scirocco - £1750
    Canyon Ultimate CT 8.0 - Athena / Mavic Equipe Elite - £1700
    Colnage Ace - Veloce / Khamsin - £1550

    Or any other thoughts?

  • canyon

  • to be honest anything you buy in that price bracket will be a really good bike.

I'd go for the Canyon, based purely on a feeling that I'd quite like one.

Condor (I'm probably on my own here mind) seems to me to be "posh winter bike", and Colnago, well, what have they done recently?

Disclaimer- Colnago may have recently set the world on fire with their back to back Giro and Tour wins with their new kevlar/aramid frame, but I missed it.

  • Have you ever ridden a Colnago?

  • Rhetorical question, if you had you'd know.

  • Nope- I am happy to admit to being ignorant here.

EDIT- not happy that I am ignorant, but I'm not going to pretend I know everything based on stuff I've read on the Internet.

EDIT #2- also happy if someone would like to lend me a Colnago to find out about this great ride quality.
