  • He's doing Roubaix, but going for double bar wrap there is acceptable.

Mincing around the lanes of Surrey and Kent should not require double tape.

    Double-wrapped? gel pads? Pfft.

  • Also are thomson seatposts worth the money? Looking for a silver alloy one (don't really want black) and that's one of the only options I can find.

I like the little saddle angle markings on 'em. They're just a seatpost though, who cares? All the posts I've used have done the same thing.

  • Hippy riding without bar tape since 1990

  • Hippy riding without bar tape since 1990

Without bar tape? No way.. no hipster rocking NItto bars here.

  • Bugger it I may just go for a black alloy one. So many more options then. I won't have to pay the Thomson price either.

  • whats wrong with all the posts everyone else posted? Tonnes of silver posts out there.

  • They're all reposts.

    #getscoatandleaves

  • ^zing

  • I have a suspicion that spenceey is trying to generate another 20 pages of this thread (on top of the 20 we spent discussing his frame, tyre clearances and pressure - not to mention the 15 on the wheel recommendation thread "the hubs are the wrong kind of clicky" etc ). I imagine that once we've gone through 400 perfectly suitable seatposts we'll start talking about cables or something..

Basically I'm calling spenceey out for some kind of weird attritional trolling ;)

  • The bag is wrapped round the saddle itself, properly installed there should be no pressure against the seat post, the wrap on the post is only to keep the bag from swinging.

But it will inadvertently pull back on the seat post. Even if just by a little.

It matters not that it's attached to the saddle not the post, all the weight of the pack is being carried by the seatpost and it's not compressed weight. It's moving the centre of gravity (of rider and bike) way behind the centreline of the post - as if the saddle had extra long rails and was pushed right back.

    Do not want.

  • Can't really go with a black seatpost on a ti built.

    Total shit. Looks great actually

  • ^agreed - black seatpost/stem is the only way with ti

  • Even with a silver/ grey groupset?

  • Hippy, please can you rename this thread to ''Roadbike, hubs, rims, bartape, seatpost, tyre pressure, etc ffs** reccommendationz'' **Thx

Some good info in these pages, but it's getting a bit OT, Spenceey. Maybe a current projects thread would be better suited?

    Obsessive Compulsive trolling?

I think the main reason I've asked so many questions is that I'm shit at making decisions.

  • Ja. Component chatter >>>>

  • Even with a silver/ grey groupset?

So what you mean is a black seatpost looks shit with silver/grey components.

Fair enough. Nothing to do with a Ti frame though

you're making the (false) assumption that any of us know anything about bikes either though*..

Build a bike that you like and stop worrying about it - or you'll end up like Dammit, replacing one perfectly good fork with an identical one that has a different decal and some added marketing (sorry Neil, but when I saw that...)

*i'm not including all the people who actually know about bikes: bmmf, andy etc etc.

  • I was going to agree with Hippy: that all my seatposts have done the same thing, when I remembered the bracket holding the saddle broke on one (on a MTB) which made for a difficult and uncomfortable ride home. That said the seat post was cheap shit, and I have a big arse

I'm going to have black stem/ bars then grey/ silver groupset + silver brake calipers and silver mud guards, thought silver seat post would look good.

  • Really? So no more than 85psi? Isn't that a too little?

No, it will be fine. I weigh 93kg + bike + clothes, and 90psi is plenty for any of my 25c equipped bikes. That load calculation spreadsheet consistently gives higher recommended pressure than normal road racer lore.

  • Ed the forces would be significantly different a carbon seatpost is designed for compression (i.e. your weight pushing DOWN on it)

Ballocks. Unless your seat tube angle is 90°, a seat post always has a substantial off axis load, which a few kg of saddle bag will not significantly alter.

There is a good point there.

I wondered about starting a thread called Component Chatter... but remembered this thread: http://www.lfgss.com/thread68751.html which should deal with general "oh and what should I buy advice?"

Can we make it a sticky?

The beauty of this thread should be giving people hints and pointers on which road bike they should buy.

  • Even with a silver/ grey groupset?

Seatpost must match stem and bars, doesn't matter what colour the groupset is- unless the seatpost (and sometimes the stem) is part of the groupset.

And Dan- they are different, so ner: http://www.calfeedesign.com/tech-papers/grades-of-carbon-fiber/

  • touché :)

I know there are different kinds of carbon, but really, really? Will you notice that much difference?
