  • So, it's a completely different bike then?

  • confused

  • It's new Damo.

The 8 is fine, better than fine actually. I ride a 5 and it still rocks!

  • It's an evolution. Just buy a CAAD8 and be done with it.

  • Right. Good. Because I might be able to make £800 seem a reasonable expenditure.

  • It's all over, man. I'm just happy I got the Feather before this...

Becoming a dad was what finally convinced me to go fixed (maybe I was thinking 'get fixed', and got confused). Some BS ridden idea that my riding time will decrease, and that fixed riding will me make me feel I'm getting more out of it.

  • Bike manufacturers have to 'evolve' their range each year otherwise consumers will think they outdated. Some of the changes are worthwhile, many of them are marketing bollocks.

  • That much I understand. For some reason, inexperience or ineptitude, I thought the 8 and 10 had been released simultaneously.
    I know, what a silly I am.

  • There was a 9 in between but they've discontinued it and are pushing the 10 for money and the 8 for budget and the 9 as a CX frame.

If you have £800 and can live with a triple. You might need to grow though...

  • Canyon Ultimate AL frameset with carbon seatpost and WCS stem for £480...

You wouldn't get an £800 build out of it, of course, but that's a pretty nice price I reckon.

  • 58?? What kind of giant rides that?

  • I've seen a 54 with Sora or with Tiagra. And indeed, 105.
But this is all moot. January is bike buying time.

  • You can do a smallfurry and slowly build it up though.

the end result is going to feel even more awesome than getting a complete bike, abet not as soon.

  • As well as the canyons, Rose do nice budget alu bikes.

I reckon you could brouse all day, and not find anything as nice as that CAAD 8 though.

  • but the problem with Rose is the 5 week delivery time.

A bike! Complete! in 5 weeks!

Wow. I dont think I've broken 12 months yet.

  • ah, but your bike isn't exactly OTP though is it?

Wish it was. Still bloody indexing it.

My ideas > What I'm capable of.

  • As an aside. What are Tritan cycles as a shop. They have the best prices for Salsa framesets.

Only used them once but was impressed. Ordered around lunchtime and it arrived the next day.

  • I used them once too, they're good in my book, I suspect you're getting the fatbike frame aren't you?

Right now I'm looking at the Pugsley and thinking about taking the part from my Diamondback onto it, until I build a pair of 26" wheels.

The Mutluk is a back up plan. If I build a set of 170mm/135mm hubed wheels, and find out I cant stomach the postage of a frameset from Alaska.

The current all year commuter will eventually be up-graded with disc brakes. I want a Salsa Vaya frameset to keep it as a commuter/tourer. I can simply swap over everything from my current commuter (built new wheels with centre lock hubs with this in mind). I even have front and rear racks'n'panniers ready. I reckon I could fit my Nordic spike tyres on there for winter road rides too. Giving me the choice between snowbike or icebike, as in off-road or on-road, all winter.

The alternative is to take up nordic skiing :S

The rear end of the Pugsly is off-set, to allow the chain to clear the fat rear tyre. So you will need to redish the 29er wheel accordingly.

  • clears throat

Road bike recommendations will continue shortly after yet another derail by the fat bike/29er freaks.

  • January is bike buying time.

No, by then you'll be stuck with 2012 models at full price. Buy now to to get the 2011s they're clearing out to make room for the new bikes.
