  • To be honest, i dont really know much about building a geared bike and only know that it was 4k new and it has 7900 DA kit with decent parts.

I neeed a geared bike, this seems lovely. But it really was me just being drunk and forgetting my limits sadly.

  • I overpaid (for my budget) for my s-works, but got a crazy bargain and I'm really glad I did now. Sure you'll feel the same after you've ridden the Cannondale a few times.

It's already probably saved me £250 worth in the pub by not going out on Friday nights before early rides on Saturday, only another £250 to go.

  • Strangely that very logic has saved me tons of money that i now spend on bike parts. I would rather go on a ride than party the night before... Fuck, im getting old :-(

Im even considering not drinking on my birthday weekend soos i can get a good bday ride in... FML im so sad:-)

  • I cant wait to get out on a ride with you.

  • Really? Me? Why?

  • grooming

  • Ha! The Groomer gets groomed. I must be like fine wine then.

  • expensive at restaurants?

  • Chainy

    Does your new gf ride?

  • now he's after your g/f too

Its easier to break it down into cost per ride. If you ride you S-works 3 timnes a week for a year. Its only £3 per ride for the upgrade. Sounds reasonable to me.

Either way - I no longer care about the extra money I spent :)

I've spent something like £1.9k on the BMC so far, and I dont have levers, rear mech, or calipers yet. Going to be £2.5k i reckon. This is silly money for a bicycle. So I will be entering as many races as I can get to.

The problem with building your own bike, right down to picking out spoke nipples. Is that loads of little overspends add up to one huge over spend.

I'm enjoying collecting parts though, will enjoy assembling it, and will enjoy riding it even more. So it kinda feels like I getting more from the money this way.

  • but equally if you build something slowly over time you can take advantage of bargains as and when they appear, for instance, if you're patient, you'll probably be able to save 30-40% on the price of the levers/mech/brakes.

  • Already going for 2010 stuff.

I have had some major bargins, and I have pissed money up the wall, on impulse buys. Swings and roundabouts.

  • just found out by accident that he was willing to sell it for £1000 on weightweenies...

    I am disappoint :-(

  • woah shit, that's quite a difference

dunno about morale here, but worth talking to him about? are you still happy paying 2k for it?

  • oh what. That's not cool.

It's still a great bike and a good price mate- but you might want to talk to him about that. Half way?

  • Ask to pay in cash then go over there and tell him he's got two choices;

    a) you take it for a grand; or
    b) you just take it.

  • hugo

    that is fucking moronic

Iain, I think we all suffer buyers remorse, buy a bike and six months later it is in the sale, for fraction of what we have paid.

You could ask him nicely if he will meet half way, but you did make an offer, and the price still seems fair.

It's a lot of bike for the money.

  • I've already paid for it by paypal.

Guess I can mention it but sadly James is right, I did bid on it therefore it's what I thought it was worth

    Buyers remorse indeed now.

    Spot on.

I'd add that its a interesting discontinued frameset, so could've gone for more.

  • to be honest he's crazy to even think about taking a grand for that.

  • I say just email him and ask in an honest way, perhaps more in a wondering way than anything else. You can't really demand him to meet him half way on the price, but it won't do any harm to ask about it would it?

  • It's latest generation DA 7900, he needs his head examining if he was happy to sell that fora grand, as the auction proved.
