You must be suceptable to illness, which means your immune system is run down. I'd be going to the doctor and get them to check you.

I actually did before, earlier in the year after having so many colds and flus. Ive always been one of those people who don't get sick that often, too.
Doctor said I was physically fine and my blood work was also fine. What other tests are there, if any?
-
• #2979
None.
Too much stress, mixed with public places where germs exist.
Lock yourself up. Try listen to your body better. -

I take an hour long train to work twice a week. Probably just picking up germs there :(
-
• #2981
Haven't been drinking (at all)
I've identified the problem.

• #2982
Wear glasses, stop touching public stuff, wash your hands more, never rub your eyes on the train
-
• #2983
I concur with the wash your hands more suggestions. Started doing this a couple years ago and am getting ill far less often than I used to.

time to sanitize everything

^ can't unsee this.
Avoid little people if possible. I pick up something nearly every time I babysit someone's little 'un.

I did. Did a perfectly easy 90km on Monday last week then did 280km on Saturday with pals at a relatively relaxed pace. The next day I come down with a cold.
Protein/recovery drink within 45 minutes (ideally 20 minutes) of finishing?

Starting back into another block of training in time for some late season TT's in September. First week of trying to get in 3 quality sessions, a crit, and at least one social ride to make the most of the weather. Doing recovery stuff in the early morning sun has been glorious...
My biggest issue at the moment is getting motivated to get back on the turbo, especially when it's hard to keep my pain cave cool (I have two industrial fans and the window open). I had thought to train outside but it's hard to find somewhere near NE London that's flat and suitable for stuff like 20 min steady-state intervals.

^ Something is better than nothing. Ideally I'd be doing the same 3x20minutes but I'm really fatigued and it's hot so I'm off to Aston to do 3x threshold laps of the XC instead which should be painful but 'fun'. I think if I climbed on the turbo tonight I would be doomed to failure as well as really pissed off.

In the same vein given we have enough shit weather to necessitate turbo often, I don't think it's worth the misery of indoor training in good weather. Doing sweet spot on the road with less structure isn't the end of the world. 90minute ride at sweet spot apart from junctions and downhills (if you can't brake to keep in zone) works OK for me.

Yep, both times. I'm just gonna go with sanitiser every time I'm around people

And now I've got a sore throat
-
• #2992
I've been off the bike for 3 months due to broken bones and life. Prior to broken clavicle I felt great, had been doing a lot of turbo and long weekend rides. Is it likely that any form I had 3 months ago is still hanging about? What's the sensible way to get back into it?
-
• #2993
No, but it'll come back.
Just ease back into it. Lower all expectations and go from there. It'll return fast(ish). -

Apparently my regular illness is due to low white cell count. Anyone had this before?
-
• #2995
Low white count could be due to fighting whatever current illness you have. I've been trying to get to the bottom of recurrent tonsillitis (for the last 10 years) and just had bloods done. Docs said they were normal but low due to being ill. Apparently the best thing to do when fighting infection is up your protein intake, as that's the key fuel for white blood cells to work properly.

• #2996
Might have to try that. 2nd week of complete meh with glands and non symptomatic feeling shattered/achy by the afternoon. Had exactly the same this time last year. EBV or just coincidence........
-
• #2997
yep - i'm due in again on wed for another blood test so we'll see how they look.
I've been training hard with high protein intake since so hopefully they're ok -

Is a strong coffee first thing out of bed a bad idea ? I've been doing this on mornings where I train before work to accelerate the waking process, but also recently have been having near Dumolin levels of stomach problems during the ride. Should I eat something to soak it up? Or just ditch the coffee?

Riding outdoors I love my Fizik Arione saddle but after 2 hours on a turbo I want to throw it out of the window. Just can't get comfortable. Is this just normal when using a turbo?
Realistically got another 4-6 weeks of turbo only riding while getting over wrist injury. HTFU or find a new saddle.

It's normal.
When you're riding outside you'll be moving around the saddle a lot more than you realise, and getting out of it quite often. Inside you tend not to move around so much and it does, to use an expression an Irish friend was found of, cut the hole off of you.
I did. Did a perfectly easy 90km on Monday last week then did 280km on Saturday with pals at a relatively relaxed pace. The next day I come down with a cold.
Maybe I'll try carrying round some hand sanitiser.
