I am told that it leads to a sinking in your blood sugar levels, which makes you keen to eat. It also obviously reduces your willpower to resist eating. Damn shame it's so mighty fine.

You had your thyroid checked? It's often responsible for being tired all the time and many other things, including weight gain.
-
• #8779
That's a new one... I'm gonna use that. Stupid thyroid!

I don't remember. I did have some blood tests done but then immediately moved house and have neither heard anything back nor bothered to register with a new doctor. I cook most stuff my self, my real problem with booze is that it stops me from cooking at home and I just order take away instead...
Damn you Just Eat and your all to easy to use phone app! >_<

I could do with booze reduction as well, I'm going to try to form new habits. For 4 weeks I won't drink on Monday or Tuesday, then add another day in a months time, etc.
Hopefully booze will only be twice or maybe three times a week.

I am cutting booze big time this year, it is the source of all my extra timber.

You're kidding me? You've never heard of an under active thyroid causing weight gain? But then again you're a bloke and it mainly affects women.
@bothwell you might think that but it is a bit like having a flat battery; it affects everything including your cholesterol levels, appetite, concentration and memory. Other symptoms include muscle pains and headaches and thinning eyebrows. The replacement hormone Thyroxcin is seen as an essential drug, and once you are prescribed it you qualify for a prescription exemption certificate, meaning all your prescriptions are free.

"Other symptoms include muscle pains and headaches and thinning eyebrows."
I have the THICKEST EYEBROWS on the entire forum, sister. I have more eyebrows than eyebrows has eyebrows. One of my mates said I look like one of the Gallagher brothers, but I got the last laugh, see, coz I am even BROWSIER than that pair of thyroid glands.
But yah, it could be something hideous. I haven't really got any of the underactive thyroid symptoms so I'd be surprised if it's that. Might be ebola, though. I'm sure my GP would be able to rule it out if I had one.

When I was Tired All The Time (and eating lots didn't help) it turned out I was anaemic.
Also, have you considered walking? It's a lot more comfortable than running. I'm well on a walking thing at the mo.

Yes! Me too! I got a fitbit last March because I needed to do something gentle to get a modicum of fitness back, and I figured having a glorified pedometer would shame me into doing some physical activity. I've kept it up since then and get a decent amount of trotting done each day, and it's really helped make sure things don't get worse. A+ fan of walking now for sure. It won't get me back to where I was but it'll stop me fusing to my sofa from inactivity.

Walking is the only reason I didn't put on loads of weight initially after breaking my collarbone - I started walking 6 miles to work a week after surgery. Unfortunately then it got to December and I decided walking was cutting into valuable time when I could be eating.

I expect your physio was thrilled with that regime?!
-
• #8790
I'd been discharged from physio by that point for good range of motion. Hurrah!

Had a long tiring day at work, now home and I want to eat ALL the things and the house is still full of xmas treats. Super bastard hunger

Plan for tomorrow (or today, as written at 1am whilst mildly drunk):-
8.55am: drop off daughter at school
9.15am: 1h swim (3000m ideally, probably more like 2500m)
10.15am: out of pool
10.45am: home, changed, out on bike to Richmond Park
12.45pm: back home from 50km ride (4 laps in the wind plus to/fro)
1.00pm: changed and out for a run (Richmond Park and Putney Heath, lovely)
2.15pm: home from run (hopefully 10k)
2.40pm: showered and out the door
2.55pm: pick up daughter from school looking utterly fucking broken
3.15pm: go swimming with daughter (an hour of me pretending to swim whilst stretching, daughter busy faffing around in the pool not quite being able to swim)
4.15pm: out of pool
4.30pm: cafe at pool (EAT ALL OF THE THINGS. I'm beyond dribbling at this point)
5.30pm: home, bath progeny, fighting urge to just lie down and moving towards the light
whatever'o'clock: sleep, hopefully daughter can get herself to bed
dribble
...
Saturday am: Parkrun! -

Had to get breakfast on the way to a client meeting this morning.
Turns out that pret have started selling quinoa and milk and trying to pass it off as a healthy "porridge". It tastes like quinoa and milk (which I guess is obvious in hindsight).
AVOID!
-
• #8794
Is it cooked or just the raw grains and milk?
-
• #8795
It was cooked.
I can still taste the vegetablyness.
-
• #8796
Actually; update!
It was not milk but coconut water: http://www.pret.com/menu/pret_pots_desserts/five_grain_porridge_PUK5739.shtm
Never. Again.

Just over 2kg gone. This magic 'not eating' diet really works.
-
• #8798
Quinoa porridge sounds quite nice (not with coconut water though, yuk). Then again I really like quinoa. #middleclass

I have nothing against quinoa but it's not a breakfast item.

I've been on that one too. 1Kg lost between Monday morning weigh-in and Friday morning weigh-in. Bad day yesterday though because I got up stupidly early to do a tiny amount of extra miles so was tired in the evening and craving sugar.
Booze tends to make people hungrier, so cutting it out or down usually gives more of a benefit than just the simple calorie reduction.
