  • I put on 5kg after coming back from Afghanistan this summer (to be expected I guess) working my way back to fighting weight and I'm 1.5kg there. Ironman program starts in 3 weeks and then it's into the gnarzone and body shred time.

  • Has anyone had any experience with high blood pressure? For the past month my doctor has been monitoring my blood pressure since a routine check up highlighted serious hypertention (160/100). I consider myself to be fit, exercising a lot (20 mile round trip commute, running 35 miles a week, climbing twice a week and swimming on the weekends). I've got to go back tomorrow for some further tests as there could be some underlying factors, worse case scenario is that im going to be put on long term medication which im hesitant to do. Im going to do some research on some natural alternatives and monitor my salt intake.

    Go see a nutritionist.

  • Remember it's only gay if you make eye contact.

Eye contact before and after but not during.

    Where does that leave me?

Whats your fighting weight and how tall are you? I put 6kg from an injury that stopped me boxing, trying to get back to 70Kg, 1.83m light middleweight

I think wearing socks is going to be your saviour here.

  • So

I was toying with the idea of creating some interval MP3's that you put in a playlist on your ipod on random so it's different each time. It would be based on the Deck of Cards where each suit is a chosen exercise and each cards value is the amount.

Before I get started does anybody know of anything similar for free.

You see I like being told what to do as I am easily distrac...oh look something shiny.

There was something called getfitpod but they have started to sell them now.

  • so SWIM is going to eat nothing but protein powder and psyllium husk for every meal for a month to lose weight. I said it sounded odd but I am secretly scared it might work. What do you think?

  • Of course it will work because no doubt the amount of calories per day will be well below what they normally have.

    Sounds utterly shite.

  • Right im back on te mission, had a bad later half of the year, made redundant hit the pubs alot, but new year new start. My fitness pal back up and stravia on the phone.

  • Just thought i'd pop this here, I rarely contribute and hope this information is of some help to someone. Firstly I am sceptical of medicine, whether it be modern, homeopathic or chinese and I must say food allergy testing is one of the most beneficial things I've done for my mind and body in my life.

I've always found it tough to stick to diets and I put on weigh way to easily, along with this I was in a constant state of fatigue and had low energy. I then heard about a chap near me (I've living in Kerry for the last four months) that tests for food allergies using hi-tech/modern equipment (ASRYA), I had had a similar test before and was recommended to stop eating gluten and yeast for three months and it helped me massively when training for triathlons (four years ago now!), but I then went back on to them.

Anyway the test came back and said I had the nerves of a 50 year old man and high anxiety amongst other things. The test read the levels of minerals and vitamins in my body and showed the over saturation and depletion i had.

Anyway In early November I was 92kg's and now I am 85kg's without much exercise, staying away from certain foods and particular vitamin and mineral supplements. In addition I don't feel as hungry (whereas before I would over eat) and tired all the time and I'm cooking more and managing my nutrition and diet. Although you could argue that you don't need to see a specialist to do this, for me knowing what I (specifically me) can and shouldn't eat has made the process of dieting and the obvious results much more friendly and manageable. At first I saw this all as; I was unable to eat certain foods but now I feel like I'm gaining strength, energy and a better mind, so it's all a gain then a loss.

Some family members have had the same tests done and we all have different foods to avoid, which is interesting as we were all lived together eating the same foods for 20 odd years.

    I'm sure there's people in the UK providing such services, but here is the chap's website I went to;

    http://www.raynolan.ie/food-allergies

    And the technology he uses

I hope it doesn't sound like an advert and that it helps someone.

  • 2 month Insanity workout completed. Body has def changed shape for the better but weight remained the same(I couldn't expect to lose any really as I'm fairly trim and have put a bit of muscle on).
Just started it again straight away, month 1 workouts feel like a breeze compared to when I started which means my form, pace and consistancy is much better this time around. It felt expensive at the time, but cheaper than the gym for the same period and I only skived off on xmas and new years day, gym blatently would have been a waste of money with my work/life schedule.
Trying to squeeze a couple of 5k runs in each week as well now for good measure.
This exercise lark ain't so bad after all.

  • Before and after pics...for, er, research

Do you follow the eating regime, if there is one, or just do the workouts?

  • Wut!
Not that noticable but remainder of beer gut gone and shoulders more defined. No washboard abs/chainbreaker man-cleavage quite yet though ;)

I didn't follow the eating plan because it was pretty heavy on cottage cheese and other dairy which I can't really eat but stopped eating shit like I did previously. Decent. balanced meals and no takeaways, was sensible over xmas. I vary rarely drink so that wasn't a problem either.
3 coffees at breakfast replaced with 1 protein shake which stopped me munching crap later in the day.

  • Motivation-wise, it really helped that LadyLiz was doing it as well, I have the potential to be a lazy fucker so her encouragement definitely helped. As silly as it sounds, have a calender which tells you which workout to do each day and tick off helps as you feel guilty and want each of the boxes ticked off by the end of the week.
    Month 1 is 30-40mins a day/6 days a week
    Month 2 is 45-60mins a day/6 days a week
It hurt like fuck for the first 10 days til my body got used to it but worth sticking at it.

  • Oh, and there is pushups involved. Lots and lots and lots of pushups. If you don't like em, don't bother!

  • I'm guessing you don't need any special equipment? and does it involve running? (i refuse to run)

  • No weights of anything but a mat is useful if you don't have carpet.
There is running on the spot.
Mostly it's Full Metal Jacket style training drills.

  • I can just about deal with running on the spot, will look in to it cheers

  • It's 22 GB download going to have a look tomorrow.

  • Print out the calender as well so you do everything in order

  • Oh, and depending on how big the room you're in/windows you'll want a fan.
I've never had heatstroke but the first couple of days before we got one felt like what I imagine it's like.

  • Bloody lot of money that edmundro!

Did you feel as though you learnt anything from that you couldn't have found elsewhere?

  • Feel that I'm getting back in shape, and my fitness is imcreasing on a week by week basis but hitting my daily net calorie target doesn't seem to be enough anymore.

Will have to start paying attention to the type of fuels being put in...
