I think as long as you have your feed after the main amount of cycling you would be adhering to rules somewhat.
My opinion is as long as you have enough calories to cycle you should be fine. Why cut all the calories and make cycling a chore?
I did a keto diet (not strict <50g) and made a significant loss that stayed off. I tried to cut more calories and found by Friday my commute home was a lot slower and a ballache.

well have to say myfitnesspal Android app is proving rather useful - I've lost nearly half a stone in 2 weeks watching my calories (being able to scan barcodes of food is great) and gym and spin classes - another half a stone to go to target weight

has anyone on here tried intermittent fasting in conjunction with cycling?
Did you happen to watch the horizon documentary last night?

My biggest problem is time. Demanding job with long hours, and a fairly hectic social life. I'm currently hitting the gym when I can (interval rowing, some resistance work and then finished with squats/plank/dips on the vibro plate thing), 5s twice a week and cycling a bit. I'm trying to throw in press ups on nights off, and might try to make these daily (if I remember).
I'd say I'm pretty fit now, my strength is improving a lot, but with the continued presence of beer and wine in my diet, have hit a slight plateau and need to shake it up a bit in order to keep up the loss of that bit of fat I need to turn into muscle. Not looking to gain or anything, just get a bit leaner, and stronger.
Any suggestions? Or just work a bit harder in the gym.

Isn't this what the majority of hipsters do anyway? And skaters/BMXers too. Skip a proper breakfast, then spend day at school/working then ride their bike/skate, then perhaps get something small to nibble on at bedtime.
In case of the hipster type, I know they can go for a week without a real meal. And even that meal would be a joke.
That is why they are all so thin.

What I do when I plateau is I cut something calorific out of my diet, something like say chocolate or alcohol, thing is I have pretty much cut everything out that I can, so now I am progressively trying to eat less & less. Calorie counting is boring but it does work. I have found that I tend to zig zag between 1500 and 2000 calories a day. I do pretty intense workouts.

Once you get to a point where you can comfottabley deal with x amount of calories I day I then find it's easier to move to a lower amount. Don't try and do too much to soon.

There is definitely scope for this, the problem being I don't really want to give up the weekend beers. Mid week drinking is out though, and I'm cutting the sunday wine as well, so it'll be friday, saturday drinks. Big game is on sunday this week, so might cut it out on friday and then enjoy a number of lagers on sunday morning beforehand. But that's how it is for me, never a succession of weeks that run smoothly.
I suppose that's a question of discipline though.

FT have a look at that Horizon program on BBC iplayer - I am giving this some serious thought. My boxing club is open Monday to Friday so I could effectively do a 5 - 2 weekly fast. Not sure I can train two hours day on day with only 500 calories a day so alternate day fasting might be tough.

I'm thinking of giving it a go too - not so much for weight loss but for the other health benefits. Just need to give some thought to a >600 calorie menu...

the 5 by 2 idea seems certainly do-able...will give it a try!

Fasted on Tuesday, doing it again today. Surprisingly easy, although not helped by being sent out to buy a kebab by my wife on Tuesday evening.
I need to re-calibrate the way I look at food, as this seems like a good way to do it. I think Tuesday might be the first time I've actually been hungry in years. Normally, the first pang and I'm off to get a Mars bar.

Do you like it? If yes, then it is good.
Fad diets and crash courses are not sustainable. 500 cal a day with an active lifestyle is not necessary. No-one needs to lose that much weight that quickly unless you are 35 stone and need to slim down X% before they can operate on your cholesterol laden heart.
A simple realisation that what and how much goes into your pie hole affects what hangs off your bones is enough to start with. After that, it's down to you to make the right decisions. It's not rocket surgery.
"ooh, that cake looks tasty. What would I rather do, eat the cake or lose a few hundred calories?" If the answer is eat the cake, then eat the fucking cake. Don't beat yourself up about it just fucking do it and stop crying about it. Maybe even use that as incentive to take a nice detour on the way home and take in a few more miles or an extra hill or two.
I have lost 20kgs in the last year from what I am now going to call the "HTFU Plan". It's not a record breaking amount of weight and it has taken a year or so but it's consistent and enough to have everyone comment and ask how I did it. It's not hard. Just be honest with yourself about what and how much you eat. I still have pizza, burgers (the Devastator from the Red Dog Saloon being a recent accomplishment), chips, beer, full roast dinners etc but I am responsible with it. It's not saved up for a "treat" (how fucking patronising is that?). I am an adult and I will eat what I want when i want. But if I want to lose weight more, then the mental battle is an easy one.
Sorry, not aimed at anyone here in particular, just getting annoyed with people in the office and elsewhere crying because their "diets" never work.

I found that pretty motivational Stevo.
Where can I buy the book for this HTFU plan...? -
• #4549
Just find the biggest book you can, strap it to your chest with gaffer tape, run 2km, take the book off, run 2k again, realise how much easier the second 2k was. That's the book.

^^ + 1. The secretaries in my office would go to "Flabelos" which I understand to be a vibrating belt which goes around your oversized belly for 15 minutes, and then stop off for a mcdonalds on the the way back to work.
Ludicrous.
