Food intake = calories in
Activity = calories outToo simplistic.

the calculation for basal metabolic rate is probably inaccurate for an individual, the calculation for the calories used via activity is probably inaccurate for an individual, calories lost in poo is not taken into account and the labels of food is probably inaccurate.

Still, if I mfp to 2000 cal a day I lose weight.

I’ll stick with simple. The basic premise is correct. Tracking activity does not include maintenance calories - perhaps I didn’t mention that. But, as discussed previously, it all relates to energy transfer.
Thanks for the links.

The basic premise is correct.
yes. Cal counting may work but possibly not for the reasons we think. Tracking what you eat makes you take accountability for what you eat. It may be the fact you are tracking is the important part, not what number you are aiming at.
might not doe.

What I am interested in is the accuracy of the watch. Bizarrely if it is reading less than I am using this is a bonus as i work harder.
I haven’t used MFP for ages as my diet, generally, doesn’t change too much. Intake is around 1800-2000 calories per day.

The way I look at it, tracking with the same baselines is consistent if you make your own mistakes, but always keep to the same mistakes*
That the value is only locally correct and not globally correct, for all the reasons you linked, doesn't matter for the individual who wants to have a guess at how much they need to eat / eat less.
That I am 10-15% off doesn't matter to me, it's good enough for my purposes. It does mean you need to track a while for the value to "settle" I think.
And yeah of course tracking means you won't stuff your gob, ohshit was that 10 cookies? Ups.
*eating outa lot can really throw it off, but if you mostly make your own food it's usually OKish.

69.6kg this morning.
72kg starting weight.
Its coming. But slow.
Regarding upthread turbo talk- I reset it and it works, sadly my front room is a building site. -

I’ve googled this and now I’m confused... if you’re dehydrated the BF% on the scales should read higher or lower?
I always get my lowest result post exercise but that conflicts with Tanita FAQs. -
• #12487
Should be lower since your overall body weight is lower but amount of fat stays the same.
-
• #12488
That’s not right though. Let’s exaggerate and say I was 100 Kg and 20% BF (ie 20 kg of fat) then sweated off half my weight to 50kg, still 20kg of fat so the percentage of me that’s fat goes up.
Likewise if I drank 100kg of fluid my fat % would half.I think the problem is just the way the scales use electrical impedence, I’ll start looking at some of the other metrics that these Tanitas spit out, particularly body water % and see if there’s a pattern.

Oops, yeah you're right, sorry.

It's not a particularly accurate way of measuring BF% either – a lot of things can affect it as it's just measuring conductivity. You could be 35%BF and dry as a bone or 4% with sweaty feet etc.

87.4kg & 13.4% BF today.
Controlling calories with Huel at work has been useful, also because of elbow injury have been doing more leg work and cardio which probably means I'm burning fat but not adding muscle which I might have been doing more previously (?)
8km rowing intervals has killed me, so tonight I need a drink! -
• #12492
How do you measure BF?
-
• #12493
Got back from a Vegas trip. Lots (and lots) of beer and burgers.
About to step on the scale...
-
• #12494
2/2/18 103 kg
9/2/18 102.1 kg and weight lifting started.
15/2/18 100.1kg
23/2/18 101.8kg 33.7% Fat Mass. New Nokia scales so hoping to be a blip due to greater accuracy...
09/03/18 104.5kg 33.6% Fat MassBollocks...

Yeah, I'm sitting at 93 again after skipping gym, drinking lots and eating poorly.
-
• #12496
Meh, It was worth it!
-
• #12497
I'm still hitting my intervals even if they are starting a little later due to hangovers so, every cloud...
