Wait, how can they force food onto you and make you pay for it?
-
• #10028
So... the building is catered. Because they cannot verify who eats and who does not (it's all self serve in kitchen) it was a choice of everyone pays or they cancel having the food. It's not a massive cost ( ~$25 every 2 weeks after tax ).
If we had a proper canteen then it would be on what you actually consumed/took.
-
• #10029
Seriously though, can they do that? How can you be forced to opt-in to some work canteen?
It might be good value or whatever but it still sounds like bullshit on their part to me. -
• #10030
Well, originally it was totally free. Then we were bought by another company who have a policy that you have to declare it to the Gov for tax reasons.
The new companies argument was, you can always quit (welcome to America). On the plus side, they gave us bonuses etc... so I am making 20% more than I was before they bought the company. Hence no one really has argued about paying for the food.
-
• #10031
That 20% extra now pays for your healthier food. Simples.
I'd still argue about the food though.

Meh. Fuck the scales off for December and enjoy it.
-
• #10034
How are the damage assessments going? I'm the heaviest I've ever been, but as a result the most motivated
-
• #10035
I'm the heaviest I've been. I'm booked on a fitness week in February and aim to be a work in progress by the time I get there.

• #10036
I don't own any scales... (apart from kitchen ones), but I can certainly grab some flab.

I'm up to 91kg from 88kg before the 3 weeks of seasonal excess (not playing football 3/4 times a week and no gym 3/4 time per week). Which I'm actually not too horrified by. Plan is to get down to 85kg by end of March, whilst maintaining my weight routine.
Going to start swimming and give up beer for 3 months is about the only major change I'll make as I had been 88kg for around 3 months before xmas so had hit a bit of a plateaux

First time ever I've not entered January totally disgusted with myself.
If I can stick with the usual January routine, I should be able to hit an all time (adult lifetime) low.

174kg! Bloody hell!
-
• #10041
Put a kilo on (74kg) since the week before Christmas but I'm still 2kg less than last Jan.
Only missed 2 gym sessions but not been to track for 3 weeks (actually, I've barely been on the bike at all)
Bodyfat up 0.5 to 14.5%
Still got lots of cheese left in the fridge, though. -

My weight has stayed roughly stable at ~81kg, however I've lost 2" off my waist over the period of the Festive 500.
-
• #10043
Heavy as fuck. But holy shit have I consumed a lot of beers in the last two months. Boom! Winning!
-
• #10044
Up 3kg since mid Dec now 80kg at 185cm
Which is better than the 98kg I started at.
But not as good as the 69kg low I hit 6 months after started the diet/cycling.
Nor is it the 73kg fighting weight I'm aiming for for 1st May.Ideas to lean off without losing muscle and power? Or it a case of knocking 500kcal a day off the daily intake as MFP suggests and still do 8-10hrs a week via trainer road?
-
• #10045
Feel 174kg on my climbs at the moment to be fair.
-
• #10046
That's a lot to do on the trainer. I think you'd get tired of it PDQ.
Part of the enjoyment of the trainer for me is going out and seeing how much it helps on the road.

Tell me about it! Been on the TR regime since 1st November. Takes some mental fortitude

weight is up a few kg after an admittedly gluttonous christmas but have also been hitting the gym a lot so hoping at least some of it has been added muscle and not just fat.
my regular weekly shopping is being delivered tomorrow so will be fully back on my nutrition and exercise regime from tomorrow and all the leftovers in the fridge are going in the bin this eve.

Had a go on some Tanita scales today and trying to get my head around Basal Metabolic Rate and Metabolic Age -
Rate will be higher the higher your muscle mass. Are there recognised average BMRs? Had a google of this and found nothing too definitive, but seems to be in the 1600-1700 range for men
Age - this is the description on the Tanita website:
If your metabolic age is higher than your actual age, it’s an indication that you need to improve your metabolic rate. Increased exercise will build healthy muscle tissue, which in turn will improve your metabolic age. What is it suggesting is a 'good' metabolic rate though? High or low? I presume it's implying a high rate is good as this implies more muscle mass. So you want as low a metabolic age as poss.
I know you need to take all this stuff with a pinch of salt, but I've never seen this data for me before so am interested in getting a basic grasp.

So much beer and food over the holidays, most in quite a few years. I am now in danger of being refloated by Greenpeace. Back in London tomorrow so back to the ten mile commute. Going to try and get back the portion control and not hoover everything in sight. No gym or rugby now so will see what I can do about burning poundage.
Yeah, look for other similar foods and guess or measure the quant.
