Hi All that are interested in marshalling for the LCC rides!
This is a message on behalf of Lu Everett (I'm her boyfriend) ..... she can't post on this forum yet because she isn't a member of the forum and that takes a while ...
Lu's been completely snowed under by the response she has had to the call for marshals and having to organise such a huge amount of rides in such a short space of time ... (I should know she's barely been home for days!) There's over 300 rides and nearly that many riders to co-ordinate!
So, whilst she's doing her bet to get back to you all with all the details it's possible she may have missed one or two of you and if you haven't heard from her yet and are expecting to, you should call her on 020 7234 9310 ext 215 or email her at lueverett@lcc.org.uk ASAP
In particular she urgently needs marshalls and leaders for the following rides Willesden, Chiswick, Ealing and Wembley to Park Royal, Brent next Wednesday 6th July 7am - 9am.
.... So get calling!
Thanks,
Dick

Dear Ride Leaders and Marshals,
We regret to inform you that we have received notification from Transport for London that all the TfL Guided Rides which LCC were commissioned to deliver during August and September 2010 have been cancelled.
This means that unfortunately all the future rides you are booked to work are not happening, and that you will not be paid a cancellation fee for these future rides, because TfL have given over 72 hours notification of this cancellation. Below is a statement which TfL have asked us to forward to you:
As a result of low participation in this year’s programme of guided cycle rides, TfL has taken the decision to cancel the remaining rides. Guided rides to support the Redbridge and Central London Sky Rides later this summer are unaffected by this decision, and will continue as planned. Sixty-nine people took part in the guided ride for the Ealing Skyride earlier this month.
It was always our intention to closely monitor this year’s rides and only deliver rides if demand was sufficiently high. Despite the publicity we did around the guided cycle rides and the changes we made following the feedback we received on last years rides, there was a low level of take up.
TfL will continue to develop and try innovative approaches to encourage cycling and help cyclists gain confidence and ride safely. Last year we provided a record £3m funding for cycle training for Londoners of all ages.
Thank you for your commitment to these rides. We are disappointed that TfL have chosen to cancel the rides but also understand their reasoning.
We are sorry that you didn’t get an opportunity to deliver these fully, and that you many have changed other bookings in order to be available for this work which has now been cancelled. We now have all your contact details on our database, and will let you know about any future work opportunities by email, as and when they arise. If you have any comments regarding LCC’s organisation and delivery of the Guided Rides, we would welcome you feedback, and have attached a short word document for you to fill in and return to me by either post or email.
With regards to invoicing for the work you have already done, I will re-send this information on the following email.
With thanks and kind regards
Lu Everett

Was anyone aware of any promotion that TFL did for these rides?
-
• #111
Not a single bits, got small piece of leaflet a week later informing about the cycle superhighway after it was 'opened', but that it (scanned it in case you hasn't got it), or it could be the fact I live in Merton which is quite a way away.
Methinks it's TfL's lack of promotion that got the ride cancelled, a pity as it would be a great way to get people on their bicycle.

NO. They have non cycle people (well, self confessed 'fair weather cyclists' at best) in charge of cycle events with no real plan in place for the marketing of this. Target groups were nonsensical. Ministers are keen to know how thi$ programme i$ going. To save eggie faces they've decided to pull the plug on it.
What does my head in is that the cycle nay-sayers will use this as a weapon/argument to move monies away from cycling investment on the basis of "it doesn't work". Maybe I'm wrong and being unduly harsh.

We live in Brixton and got that leaflet today, but that's after the 300+ rides have been cancelled and as you say Ed is about the CS7 rather than the guided rides.

Did anyone see any promotion for the rides?

It's such a pity really, the first day despite only one person turning up for the Collier Wood ride (and he's a MCC activist too) appear to went pretty fine and was rather pleasant when joined with all the group in the end after Clapham.

Mrs Digger got this email the day after the first ride, interesting technique to do marketing after the event and it doesn't really promote the rides very enthusiastically.
Dear Mrs Digger,
I am writing to let you know that the new Barclays Cycle Superhighways have now launched. The first two cycle routes run from Barking to Tower Gateway and from Merton to City. They provide cyclists with safer and more direct routes into the city.
For more information, including details of free cycling training and dates of guided cycle rides along these routes, visit tfl.gov.uk/barclayscyclesuperhighways
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Hardy
