  • I'm in a shuffle period of listening to music.

When something I really like comes on that I haven't listened to for a while, i stop the shuffle and play the album

    +1

  • K-boy, if I may, try this, sums up my life.
YouTube- Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm (Blooded 12 inch extended version) - HQ

ooh, recognize the intro words from a sample somewhere

  • K-boy, if I may, try this, sums up my life.

I read this book which is fantastic but a bit too technical sometimes

Amazon.com: Pop Music - Technology and Creativity: Trevor Horn and the Digital Revolution (Ashgate Popular and Folkā€¦

there is a whole chapter about Slave to the Rhythm album and it's production

  • thankyou so much for posting that^

I have it, I liked it - it's more for inspiration, you have to know what they are talking about - mostly just chit-chat about albums and stories but you do pick a few macguyverisms in there.

  • I look at the 60s - 80's as a golden era of music. I think sadly most of the really good music has been and gone. There have been a few good albums the last couple of years but I dont know if they will stand the test of time

two of my favourite songs of all time:

YouTube- Kool & The Gang - Hollywood Swinging

YouTube- Joe Jackson Steppin Out HD

I come and go through modern sounds, but always end up going back to the good stuff

  • I ended up overloading on music I never listen to when I went digital. So I set myself a limit of 2 albums per month and read reviews in more detail as well as checking out albums before I bought. Buy wiser + buy less means I now appreciate what I have more. After all, I bet those albums you listened to endlessly were the only ones you had because you couldn't afford more than 1 a month (for me it was because I was still on pocket money)?

How often do you read the review and think, "EH?!?" and find yourself totally disagreeing with the review?

This thread sounds like those folk that spend too much time watching online porn and can't get it together in the real world.

terribly sorry this isn't about something as serious as picking barends.

  • ...you get ace pop tunes like the Noisettes popping up...

Everyone should give their album 'What's The Time Mr. Wolf?" a listen. Absolutely incredible live too. They are a very excellent band and not to be sniffed at IMO.

Their tracks 'Hierachy' and 'The Count of Monte Christo" are my favourites.

  • Funny people refering to In Utero. I was listening to that recently and was reminded how, when I first bought it and put it on, I was disappointed at how they sounded on Serve the Servants. Then I realised that this was actually a much more powerful sound than the rather overproduced Nevermind. Also, Suede's Animal Nitrate came on the radio the other day and (despite sounding really dated) it had a kind of saturated distortion that just would not be accepted by the industry today.

  • ^ Can't be bothered to read all this... Slag put an amazing track up on the What are you listening to... thread, I logged into my favourite European vinyl website and Blammo! The 7" arrived less than a week later... I like this method of consuming music...

  • Hi, I havent read all the thread so i dont know if this has been mentioned (short attention span, ha). anyway the thread title is 'how i consume music', has that been discussed? i.e. are you listening to music while doing other things/multitasking or sitting down in room with music being the main focus?

I know when I spend time reading the sleeves or without the computer on, etc thats loads more satisfying than listening to music while im doing homework or on the web, etc. anyway PBS did a good programme on whether people are more or less 'productive' multitasking or focussing on one thing, might still be on their website.

Amanda Palmer - Who Killed Amanda Palmer
    Beach House - Teen Dream
    Grizzly Bear - Vecktimist

    Cat Power - The Greatest
Erykah Badu - New America Pt 2
Ice Cube - (First three albums)
Matias Aquayo - Ay Ay Ay
    Weezer - Weezer

and so on and so forth....

  • SOMEONE whoops. caps lock. move this to M&M. i like it and want it to live but feel bad contributing in general... which should be at least vaguely fgss no? Hippy? VB? Anyone?

  • i moved it! didn't know i could, sorry for not doing it earlier. and right from the start.
