  • ^this, nice restaurant

the view of the estate isn't up to much but other than that it's hard to fault

The lunchtime tasting menu for £35 (iirc) is the bargain of London's Famous London.

  • Pics and commentary from The Fat Duck .... here

  • Booked the Ledbury for end of December, nice 'pre-Christmas' meal for my wife and I. Apparently the vegetarian tasting menu is excellent. Really looking forward to it, been a while since we've enjoyed some 'fine dining'.
    what a great idea!

    [hint]

    Gourmand menu?

    Looks exciting. Tempted...

  • Hawksmoor Guildhall beef tasting menu yesterday lunch.
The meal was definitely a "statement", that being: this is more beef than you can possibly eat. I must say it was rather good, and we were there for around 5 hours, but for my money they could have cut back on slightly on quantity and focused even more on quality. The tartare course - which was around half a pound of raw meat each - was psychological defeat for many of my chums, with several courses still to go.

The beef shin macaroni (presented in a vast cast-iron cookpot with the bone jutting out) was the highlight for me, although the oysters with kim-chi and brasied short rib were also very good indeed.

    Today I am somewhat lethargic.

  • how much was the beef tasting menu? Do want.

  • 750 for the table, sans vin. Min 8 people, max 10.

  • OK so maybe not posh food & OT....but

My Hawksmoor burger top spot has been taken by Meat Liqour... hop dam! Go there doods!

  • say that to Catfood. :P

  • I once ate a dog biscuit, but I draw the line at sheeba...

  • I do want though.
    Pricey?

  • this is more beef than you can possibly eat

    Brave, Mccarthy... lets roll

  • Hawksmoors good, but i dont think its any better than some of the other joints doing posh steaks. I did the tasting menu there a couple of months back and its is definitely worth it if you get a gang together.

My favorite Burger in London is at Lucky7 up in Westbourne Park

    In.

    Marcus Wareing.

I'm not much of a critic/reviewer and it's hard to judge anything since eating at the Fat Duck. It set such a high bar it's almost unfair.

Nonetheless, We had the Chefs menu and the 12 courses over 4 hours was a wonderful experience.

The food and service was excellent and well worth the price. The only down point was the lighting was so dark by the 9th course I was ready for bed.. That and the twatty Americans eating there..

  • a friend of mine went to the fat duck did the same 12 course thing, he came away blown away by the standard of service its all he went on about, any where he has been since he just slates the service even if its a good standard.

  • You'd expect it for the cost though? I know this is the 'posh food' thread but Fat Duck is that bit more than other taster menus I'd consider to be top of the game.

I've experienced some pretty quality service so far, so Fat Duck must go well beyond the call of duty, like cutting my food, putting it in my mouth and massaging my throat for me.

  • Service at the Fat Duck was impeccable - but at that price I would expect it. I've had equally great service at much cheaper places too, maybe that's why it is more enjoyable and memorable; you don't quite expect it.

  • you have to compare the service in the fat duck with other 3* restaurants, as it's part of the criteria isn't it?

  • I'm going to be honest, my experience with 3* restaurants is zero. However, my point is, I'm struggling to see how some of my previous experiences could be topped, what extra mile do they cover to receive such accolades about their service?
