Also went to the Shiori last night, first time having proper sashimi and it was amazing, not cheap but you easily get value for money with the whole experience. Every dish was interesting and delicious but i think the simplest dish of bamboo rice and pickles actually took the prize.

boast post: went to the soft launch of a soon to be opened, michelin star baiting restaurant in mayfair's famous mayfair on friday. utterly amazing, proper old fashioned french cooking. highlights included the lobster broth including an entire lobster, liver and fennel ravioli and a sublime jasmine creme brulee - 8 courses in all and two bottles of quality plonk - all for the princely sum of one queenquid.

Need to pick a 1 star for gf bday in August, ideally is a non-standard Asian fusion or middle eastern or Indian tasting menu, with wine pairing. I'd really like a place with a lot of non traditional plates all lined up. Suggestions?
I don't have big experience in these, esp in London, is 80£ per person a reasonable ceiling price? -

Not starred, but I love Roka, the foods fantastic. No idea about their wine, as the sake's excellent. http://www.rokarestaurant.com/about-roka

Are Michelin stars really that important?

Well, that is a good question. No, they are not.
Truffle season has started.
Fassone beef tartare, jerusalem artichoke, with parmesan foam and shaved white truffle
Taglioni with a white parmesan sauce and shaved white truffle
Dark chocolate risotto with shaved black truffle, and white truffle meringues
I'm belching truffles...
