Hi guys, does anyone know the tubing on the PUCH Pacemaker? There seems to be nothing out the on this bike, bar a few gumtree/'Bay adverts for them going at £150ish.
Just picked up one for free, unloaded it from the top of a skip pile. Stripped it down, and it's not the heaviest ff setup I've come across so was wondering if it's anything special or just my mind playing hopeful tricks on me...? From my brief search it's late 70's, and all their top range are 531, could it be, or is it merely a drainpipe-special?Reason for enquiry, if it is something nice, cut those horizontal drop outs, weld them in the other way round and start a nice, smaller sized evil looking thing with bullhorns. which would have a build thread... For any that would be interested :)
Cheers,

looks just to be a system ex/formula hub.

[QUOTE=DonTheDragonWilson;2932969]Hi all,
I bought this frame recently and trying to find out the exact model, does anyone have an idea? The painting is obviously not original, I can take some more detailed photos if needed...]/QUOTE]Might be a Colnago Mexico. Look at where the tubes are crimped.

Can you help to identify these frames, bikes or parts?
Can you help me identified this frame? Bought on another forum some three years ago from a chap who was selling for a mate who bought it in a closing down sale (around Wolverhampton maybe) some years previously? Have commuted on it since then.
Anyway, frame has no decals only small silver sticker above the BB – maybe a dealer sticker? Short spear lugs with nice little heart shaped cutouts at the headtube on both TT and downtube. Shot-in seat stays (if that’s the right term). Rear dropouts are stamped on the inside T125 and the BB is marked only G-61. Has lugs for a rack on seat stays and dropouts so may be an Audex style frame maybe? Still rides well with my old Nigel Dean 531c forks even if they are in a slightly different shade of blue.
Lots of rust now and the BB threads are gone but that’s not too much of a problem, am therefore contemplating a cheap blasting, primer and powdercoat or another s/h frame.

What is the correct English term for this kind of brake lever (the right-hand lever in the pic)?
Is it "cross-top levers" or are those different?
(Crappy example of random bike on the street, levers not even connected)

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for identifying SLX tubing from SL or lower grade tubing? I'm going to check out a frame later and I don't want to trust the decal badge alone. I've read on another forum SLX tubes have rifling (the twisted effect you get in a gun barrel) in them so I should look in the fork steerer tube for it. Is that true? Anyone have some SLX forks they could check on for me? Or any other ways to spot genuine SLX?
Thanks

Thanks, yea that website always seems to be the place to go for old bikes.
I did buy it in the end, its a real beaut, no regrets despite the number of un-finished projects growing steadily...
a CP thread will be started once i finish the last one. -

I won't ask what you paid, but these are very desirable lightweight machines and deserve respectful treatment.
What else you got then?
Anything like that check me first if you wanna sell.I'll watch for the thread with interest.
Good luck.John.

not sure if the steerer tube would have the rifling.
putting your finger in the bottom bracket and reaching up the seat tube seems to be the accepted method. -

Oo er! Frame has got a BB in so that's not an option. Had a look on the columbus tubing chart and the steerer tube of SL tubes had rifling too. Maybe a torch down the seat tube?

The steerer is not an indication of the rifling in the frame tubing.... In my opinion.

I've had a look at the frame, which is an Eddy Merckx. It all looks legit, very light etc, and all the pantographs are there along with a visible frame number. My only concern is that the brake bridge at the back doesn't have anything panto'd on it and is not the same shape as other Merckx's that I've seen.
Were all Merckx frames made with the fancy bridge or were some made with normal ones?

I had a similar bike - Same paint job & decals - badged as Surosa - the Oldham Cycle Centre (not far from the Manchester Velodrome).
Mine doesn't look as fancy - I like the top tube sitting above the seatstay weld, and the flared downtube.
I'd always assumed my Surosa was a far east import
