25's? Look maaaasive on your tiny bike! :)

I've always had a 25mm on the rear. At 85kg (down to 81kg for this weekend) it allows for 100PSI. That conti does look huge though.
I'll admitt to being a princess about this. But compared to my ultremos, with latex inners (not to mention my veloflex). These contis with butyls are like garden hoses.

I have a Phonak SLC01 from 2006.
Perhaps i'll get around to re-building it at some point...

As noted in CP, I am joining the BMC club. Will take inspiration from George Hincapie in my build:

Loads of seatpost/stem and a dinner plate on the back? :)
-
• #783
Ha - exactly. I think Hincapie's as pictured is a size down on mine. I will definitely have a lot less seatpost and probably a 130mm stem. It isn't built for DI2, but trying to decide whether to go Ultegra Di2 or standard Dura Ace.

If it isnt built for Di2 defo mechanical Di2.
If you are a neat freak you would hate external Di2. -

The new DA/Ultegra (mechanical) have a much more comfortable hood design similar to the Di2.
It also got the same adjustable reach too which is a major improvement over the shitty shim from the old Shimano.

+1 for Ultegra 6800, I wanted that for the Chinvélo build but found 6700 really cheap.
Edit: if you have dorrah DA 9000

always always always mechanical DA over Ultegra di2. Basically - are you a real man or a tart?

DA9000 looks fucking amazing. Best looking group money can buy IMO.

I rode Di2 on a hire bike in the summer and liked it, but have mechanical Ultegra on my Canyon which is fine. Think I will go mechanical with this.
As it is BB30, Sram Red is also an option. Does anyone have experience of using adapters with Shimano for BB30? Did some quick research but didn't find anything particularly coherent. Or could go with a third party crankset (Cannondale, Rotor, FSA).

• #791
Do not, i repeat, do not go BB30. It is a pain in the arse. I also have nothing good to say about Rotors - besides being a pain in the arse to maintain, they are not as stiff as Red/DA cranks.
The DA9000 and Ultegra 6800 cranks both look great - as do the Red ones. AFAIK adaptors work well.

Basically - my experience is: Rotors are for buyers. (sorry Amey)

Just to provide an alternate point of view- I've never had an issue with BB30, have it on the Boardman which was used all through last winter as a road bike and the BB never gave me any trouble.
The issue I thought I had with the Cannondale BB was, in fact, a Zipp skewer- which I wish we'd been able to deduce before messing around with the BB a lot based on their rep, but there you go.
I think that if hte BB shell is machined well you won't have an issue, if it's not done with a high degree of accuracy then you will.
I would run SiSl2 cranks on a nice bike- very stiff, very light, modular so can take compact/standard/powermeter as your preference/requirements change.
But they are expensive- which is why I have three pairs of Rotor cranks, which I find to be fine for the amount of power I produce, and have all the benefits of being modular as well as being able to fit BSA/BB30/BB86/etc.
Finally, I would pick Di2 over mechanical - with the new multishift stuff, adjustable shift speed and so forth it is now doing stuff that mechanical groups cannot.
For example I've left my climbers switch on as I find it really convenient- I had only fitted it for Dalsnibba, but it's handy to have.
I think that if you take some care over the install you can make it look acceptably neat- I took some photographs of the way I have done mine and posted them in the System Six thread.

Tidy cabling doesn't stop the mechs looking ugly as sin ;)
For the record - the BB shell I had was in an S-Works frame which are pretty well made. It's the bearings in BB30 bb's that need replacing often, almost everyone I know who has run BB30 has moved away from it.

I've got around 3,000 miles on mine, maybe I should change them?

Thanks for your point of view Neil. I don't have the patience or skills to achieve the finish you did with the System Six, and I wouldn't want to inflict such requests on a mechanic. I can happily live with mechanical as well.
As most of the difference between Ultegra and DA is in the chainset, I might consider SiSl2 cranks with Ultegra parts.
That's a lovely set up you have there. Jealous.
