  • There's an ebay seller in Ireland selling it, but again the shipping costs are high.

  • The cheapest one on eBay is this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Never-Wet-Rust-Oleum-18-oz-NeverWet-Multi-Purpose-Spray-Kit-Ship-World-Wide-/281140220391

    Works out about £40.

If we buy 12 then we can get it down to £30 per pack.

But that's still a bit crazy. They are $20, so should be £15, and I think postage should only add another tenner.

I figure we could put a few in a large-ish box and send it in the slow post.

Just need to get someone in the US (kirth) to do this for us.

  • I saw a review of it here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/898464-Rustoleum-s-Neverwet-bike-testing and thought about the Brompton, but the fact that it rubs off easily could make it unsuitable for a folder.

  • Actually I think that's great.

I'm more thinking of the areas like hubs, spokes, rims that are fiddly to clean and keep clean.

Larger areas like the frame which take seconds to wipe down are less of an issue should the NeverWet rub off there. And the places with most to gain are around the wheels, rear triangle and forks... I seldom touch those so it wouldn't rub there.

You could even do the underside of the mudguards so that by the time you carry the Brompton indoors it's bone dry and not going to be dripping everywhere.

  • A few minutes with a baby wipe every 6 months or so. Possibly 2 baby wipes.

  • I now have a Brommy. I've not ridden it yet because it was insane in the shop yesterday and I didn't have time to scratch let alone fill out my voucher. Super excited.

  • Taking mine Leeds, Paris and on to Avignon on Tuesday. Eurostar then TGV. Mainly because I can. Secondly to whizz around Paris in the waiting time. Ridden London loads of times, how, or is, Paris any different (besides other side of the road - done that many times previoiusly).

  • Paris = Cobbles and hills. And a lot more crazy scooters to worry about. But I found it fine.

Avignon has a few busy roads but is mostly quiet.

Now for a messy place to ride, try Athens, Greece.

  • I'd be in for some neverwet, looks cool.

  • I could ship.

Went very well, Eurostar fine on the way out. Needed to bag just on to the train. Coming back had to bag before check in and carry around in the 95degree heat of thursday.

Grey Paris - Tuesday. Some of the road junctions - you really need your wits about you. Traffic from 5 directions and poor signalling

    Avignon is wonderful

Ardeche - Roads too busy and narrow - not bike friendly

  • Bought a 2012 S2L today on sale in Cyclesurgery, just over 700 quid so not so bad. I rode home from Great Portland street- Dalston, it's a really fun bike to ride! The best bit was laying waste to some lycra'd up roadies huffing and puffing up Upper street/ Essex Road.

  • Pedal strike today.

    Those Brompton pedals are massive.

  • I've used my brompton for a week of commuting now and also find it a fun bike. Am tempted to pimp and have already put a Roadie saddle on it

  • I'm planning some pimping. Going to fit spds first I think, I have a spare pair, obviously they won't fold but I'm used to clipless. I definitely want different grips/bar tape any recommendations?

That's a bloody good price. 2nd hand pristine on ebay it's about the same price, and presumably you got the year's servicing and lifetime warranty with yours?

  • Well I should think the warranty is good but Cyclesurgery said nothing about the year's servicing. They only mentioned the usual 6 week check-up, I will investigate.

caz they're not the smallest but i highly recommend the m324 shimano flat/spd pedals for the brompton.

i also prefer spd but having flats keeps its versatility and means you can hop on it for a trip to the shops without having to get kitted out.

  • I’ve got ATACs on mine, and still occasionally hop on it in non-cleated shoes to do a lunchtime run from UCL down to somewhere more central (if I forget to quickly change shoes before leaving the office). It’s passable for a short ride.

I picked up the Deore XT version at a Ribble sale, they're slightly smaller and have a reduced height, so less chance of pedal strike.

  • Spinaci's are my latest Brompton experiment, picked them up cheap from Planet X to help me battle the headwinds on a trip to Holland.

So far I really like the positions they offer, but I'll report back in full after I've tested them 100km into a headwind.

  • They do interfere with the fold, but not as much as you'd imagine. The edge of the spinaci's sits on the tyre, so the folded size is only about 200mm wider.

  • Hi all, de-lurking from afar to say that my 2012 S3L is currently being serviced: shop rang to say that the chain and rear sprocket were pretty worn. This sort of surprised me as I doubt I've done much more than 1,000 miles from new.

Normal wear and tear, or should I stop trying to trackstand against the camber at the lights?

  • also consider the drivetrain is closer to the floor and if not kept clean, will add to wear and tear

  • Ah, possibly guilty, m'lud, on the cleaning thing... It gets Baby-wiped somewhat infrequently, but, with hindsight, TLC for the drivetrain has been more of the 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' school.
