Brompton owners

The story behind that is that there used to be an agreement among most London bike shops not to offer a 10% discount on bikes, only on parts. This was because smaller shops couldn't afford it. Evans broke this agreement at some point, probably when they became a chain.

Arghh... Makes me feel bad...

But if it wasn't for that discount, maybe I wouldn't have repaired the bike... Or waited, or tried a dodgy repair...

How could you have known?

I do wonder if this is because you have changed the pedals?
The cheap flexy originals might absorb enough of the stress that would otherwise cause the cranks to fail?

Especially given that you would inevitably put a lot more power through clipless pedals.

Has anyone broken cranks on the original pedals?

BlueQuinn you make a good point - But I only changed the pedals a few months ago. Whilst they are M324s I have never used proper shoes on the Brompton. ( I can't bring myself to wearing MTB style shoes on a Brompton.) I use the platform side with regular shoes. The only reason I swapped the pedals was I got through 3 drive side pedals in like 5 months.

The fact Brompton have changed their cranks again since the 2011 updates seems to imply there have been other incidents like this with those cranks.

I'd like to change my pedals just to get rid of the Brompton shin graters.

Are the MKS EZYs the best out there?

I think that's the general consensus, I'm using the folding ones (MKS FD-6?) at the moment, they can be a bit slippery in the wet though

Me too... I regret a bit chosing that model. I wasn't sure whether I'd use cages and straps on them when I bought them. When I finally decided to put cages on them, I realized the strap moves too much due to no end bit at the end (like on MKS silvans for instance)... Duh! How did I not think of that? So slightly desappointed about that, but great stuff otherwise...
