  • I can probably get one at trade but I wanna fuck around with it a bit, even a slightly fucked one could be OK... I want it for Australia...

  • The prices are the same in all of the shops, since Brompton are very specific about their pricing for options and the like. I think an 8 week wait is still the norm for a custom colour choice, if you want one of the white or black ones off the shelf then an LBS might be able to help out. There is Brompton's own shop in Covent Garden which might give some of the options straight off since I think they are able to do them in-store.

  • The consensus seems to be that its list price or nothing.

My experience last year was that OTP models can be had pretty much same day from the likes of Evans, whilst there was at least a six week wait for a custom model from someone like Apex Cycles in Clapham.

  • Compton Cycles in Catford are worth calling, they have quite a good stock of various models. That's where I bought mine from last year.

  • Compton do keep a high stock level of different builds.

Beware most dealers even withdraw LCC and CTC discounts from Brommy's. The margin shops make on Bromptons is very very slim so you'd be lucky to get a discount. The cheapest way of buying one imo is through salary sacrifice (cyclescheme/cycleplus/bike2work).

  • Received an email from SJS cycles announcing clearance on 2014 Bromptons.

Can't find them on the webpage, so copied and pasted below the content. I suppose if you phone them they will confirm... Or I can forward the email to whoever wants...

    @jonny

  • cheers DJ but i had already found those on YouTube and some of them have helped in other scenarios.

in this one I actually unscrewed the derailleur arm from the rear mech. anyway, props to london fields cycles for sorting and not charging a thing. good on 'em.

now, next questios - what do people do about squealing noises from the rear shock spring? previously i have taken it to pieces and given it a liberal dose of lithium grease. worked for a while but surely can't need to be redone every couple of months

  • what do people do about squealing noises from the rear shock spring?

I had some squealing after a few months of ownership; I'm pretty sure it was the bushings in the hinge that required some GT85. It's been fine for the last 12 months since.

  • cheers @Dom
gave it a pretty liberal dowsing in GT85 this morning. i might need to keep a tighter bombing pattern

  • Got my new (and first) brompton yesterday.
S2L black with hot pink bits.
Baptism of fire last night in a very dark very wet central London.
Much more pleasant this morning and I don't feel as much like a pillock as I thought I might.

  • You know you can always count on the forum to make you feel like a pillock, you don't need a Brompton for that. :)

  • Has anyone ever swapped the stays on a rear mudguard?

Ordered a replacement (stays and mudguard) and I think I've been sent defective parts - there are two short stays and one long one, can't get it the right shape - is currently deformed and rubbing on the rear wheel...

  • Got a second-hand M3 and really struggling to get used to the ride... Does it get better?

  • do you have the hard or sof tsuspension block?

if you have the soft then get the hard

  • This is to be expected considering you would appear to usually ride a penny farthing...

But yes, it does get a lot better (in my experience at least: I hated my first ride on my friend's brompton, but loved it very quickly once I had bought one because I needed it)

  • The penny farthing also took some getting used to... ;)

I don't know what the suspension block is, I will have a look and research - thanks!
Do you travel far with it?

  • I've taken the jump. Raw Lacquer S3L is winging its way to me right this very second on the Ride2Work scheme.

  • I only really use it for up to around 8 miles but could definately do more.

The suspension block is the black plastic bit that sticks out between the wheels (the little wheels) when folded. It should say, Firm or Soft on it.

I had toruble adapting and felt i was bouncing all over the place when I had the soft

  • You can use a jubilee clip to 'upgrade' the soft to firm.

  • This.

Or even the firm to teeth chattering stiff.

  • how does that work? Just tighten it around the block?
