Yes, that's right. A well-executed double-shift is a thing of great joy. Well, for me, anyway.

Gonna have to keep the chain real clean other wise that front brake is not going to be happy. Also if be interested to see it folded.
-
• #1282
^^^ how?!
^ that one's gone over my head. What do you mean about clean chains?
-
• #1283
When you fold a Brompton, the non driveside of the fork hooks on to the driveside chainstay. They tend to get rather dirty and oily which if you've ever had disc brakes you will know is a bad thing to get on the rotor.
-
• #1284
^^
The fold for the front wheel brings the rotor right next to the chain. If the chain is dirty, the rotor will become contaminated and either squeal horribly or reduce the braking performance (or both).hillbilly types quicker.
-
• #1285
Yeah why not go for driveside disc?
-
• #1286
Talking of brakes on folders. I put a set of Magura HS33 on my Dahon Mu Uno.
The stopping power is unreal.

Gotcha

Swissstop pads and the new levers are good enough for me. And that's not even with compressionless outers.

smaller wheels too, not sure i want to go any smaller than it already has

I have listed a 61T chainring in the Classified so I thought I would cross-post here.

Yo everybody
I need another chainset at some point, can't be bothered waiting for the newer Brompton one to be available as spares, especially since it involves changing the BB too (ISO/JIS compatibility)
Would this work on a Brompton?

What (cheap as possible) BB can I use it with, and would I need a BB shel spacer somewhere?Yo!

@Loic - what is wrong with your current chainset. Is the chainring worn, or the cranks messed up in some way? Do you need both changed?
The new Brompton chainset is nice, I thought they were now generally available from Brompton authorised workshops. - Try Condor. The previous version of the chainset were just Stronglight rebranded cranks, I think the new ones are also made by them. But I did a quick google, getting the 52T chainring is impossible, the biggest is 48T I could find. But the whole set is ~£30 - but the cranks can't be separated from the ring. The other set are a bit more expensive.

My Brompton, although a lot has been changed on it, including frame 2 years ago, is very old. The current chainset is very probably the original one, from 1992. The chain needs replacing, the teeth of the chainring have not much life left, it does not feel smooth as I would like it to be, although I'm sure I can still use it for a while. Also I generally like the hollowtech technology, and when justifyable on a bike (style/period, all that bollocks, I would not put them on my 1960s Witcomb...) I would tend to prefer it to square tapers, which I've never been a great fan. I "rounded" too many of them when I was riding mountain bikes... Splined fittings FTW! External BB are nice too!

Yes they are nice. Brompton have not made them available yet as spares, they are only fitted on their newly produced bikes. I had that confirmed again 2 days ago by the mechanic at the Brompton store. They are listed on SJS cycle for instance, as they expect to have them as some point, but marked as out of stock. -

^Fair enough. Post back if you find a suitable alternative crankset.
Just seen one of the Brompton customiser sites mention they sell Alfine 39T crankset with external bb.

http://www.lfgss.com/thread121916.htmlThanks for pointing that out Niall, but I'm quite keen on an upgrade / better spec for the chainset.
I've got a nice Middleburn chainset but saddly it's 175 crank arms...

It's worth noting that the stock Brompton cranks are 170mm. I believe this is so the pedals will clear the wheel when folded.
However, I've failed to official specs on this so I could be incorrect.
Sorry I've just edited my last post for clarity.
So if I wanted to move from, 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 5th I have to move both levers?
At least now I know!
I'm going to think of it at the right lever (hub) being "1st, 2nd and 3rd" gears and the right lever (cog) being "full/easy" versions. So my new system looks like:
1 = easy 1st
2 = full 1st
3 = easy 2nd
4 = full 2nd
5 = easy 3rd
6 = full 3rd
