Brompton Owners, advise me pls:

I want a Brompton. I have been offered a white 2011 model w/ 6sp hub gears and dynamo and rack for £450 in pretty decent condition by a friend of the shop I work in. Annoyingly a short man owns it and I am a tall man, so as well as wanting(/needing?) to get it resprayed I will need to buy the longer stem and raised H bars, plus telescopic seatpost. Also the bulb has gone in the front dynamo light.

What has gone from seeming like a good deal now seems like it might end up costing more than seeking an alternative solution elsewhere. What should I do? Is it possible to source these bits elsewhere for cheaper, and will the parts I'm replacing have any resale value?

Would also be looking to replace the Marathons with something slicker and the old brake levers with the newer ones.

Should I buy this one or hold out for something else? Cheers

Definitely avoid the old brakes, they're not the best

Perhaps not what you’re looking for but maybe something to consider; an exposure under the saddle with the saddle rail mount? It’s what I’ve been using and it’s fits very nicely on the Brompton saddle.

Following on what @sbbohr state, the cateye mount tucked away upper saddle is a neat option.

But there are other options are out there. Just would mount it higher so drivers can see the light.

For £450 seems like a very decent deal.

Granted as you said, if this was a small person it would be ideal.

Personally would ask @sbbohr on his opinion, the parts can be replaced fairly cheaply for longer seatpost and stem - probably find some good deals online or ebay if needed.

Would hold off respraying till the last part as it can get overly expensive then.

Just been in Balfe FUlham and they have an 'adventure high' model which looked higher than my M bars.

Looked a bit like M bars on an S stem.

And H type!

This is out of date, there are 3 stems and 2 handlebars.

Message me. I’ll buy it as I need a beater if your not interested; can advise you will spend £400-600 getting it to modern state with the H type stem.

Wow, that much? That's a shame. To be honest I think if I decide not to buy it he will likely donate it to the shop I work in (it's a charity bike shop)
