  • Drop bear lolzl

Melbourne has some nice beaches down the coast, and the cycle down the bay is pretty good. You see 'heaps' of pelatons on any given day. If you go far enough, the hills are pretty damn frickin' hilly.

I can't wait to do the 'around the bay in a day'.
I will of course need a new bike natch.

  • I think statistically Queensland, NSW and South Africa have more shark attacks than South Australia.
Not that I worry too much, I trust other people get eaten.

  • why the hell is everyone going to aus?

Natural disasters make life oh so interesting.

My lovely girl just reconstructed my travels for the last 5 years from dodgy passport stamps. How the fuck can they even check this? If they can't send me the dates I was out of the country on request, why should I be expected to guess the dates of the stamps in the passport? Dicks.

  • Melbourne is alright, but I am looking for a simpler, calmer life.
One that has a good beach (and I don't mean something like St Kilda, that hardly qualifies) and some nice hills to climb by bike. Preferably while on the same ride.
And yeah, Adelaide has that. Also her family is there, plus it's cheaper, and our savings go a lot further there.
Been there twice now, both times for weeks, and I pretty much like the place.

There are more beaches than St Kilda and there are the Dandenongs to climb. I lived in Croydon and cycled over and along both. Adelaide is good for growing weed and buying fireworks but that's about it.

  • Hippy, you missed the "simpler, calmer" ... now tell me that Adelaide isn't both in comparison to Melbourne?

Yeah but so is Betoota. Why move to another city if you want simpler and calmer?

"Simpler, calmer" is why we invented 'the bush'..

  • My old house in Balmain backed onto a little park that overlooked Port Jackson and the Glebe Island Bridge, it was sooooooo peaceful.

  • Well, you can go to Betoota when you want calm, I go where I am going. How about that?

  • OK, so I'm actually really doing this...

Thinking about going with an immigration agent to help us through the process... Lori and I have been together for 8 years, de-facto type deal...

I'll be back for tips once I've read all of this ^^^...

  • saw this and thought about going back to melbourne:

is it easier getting a visa if your over 30?

Those agents almost fucked up my mates visa here. Be careful.

Do you have shared bills? They love shared bills. Stuff to prove you've lived together for 8 years.

    No. Harder.

  • I will, of course, lie to any authorities for you in exchange for Cherry Ripes, Milo, Tim Tams and such...

  • Surely lying to authority is its own reward?

Yup, shared bank accounts (that we've never really used but had open for 7+ years), bills, flights, holiday bookings, council tax shit etc. Lori's pretty thorough about all this stuff, she's indexed everything...

I'm hoping it'll be pretty straightforward... Thanks for the tip on the agents...

  • Just got off the phone with an immigration agent... I have to apply for a two year work visa and then apply for a full visa once that has elapsed...

    Does that sound right?

Good news is that they really need graphic designers out there, but I'm actually thinking about opening a café, lol!

Not as expensive as I feared, I could potentially have a visa in less than two months... Expedited service...

  • My parents acted as guarantors for British friends of mine when they moved over. I'm not sure what visa they had - I was under the impression it was longer but perhaps not and rules change anyway - this was a few years ago now. You should be able to double check whatever agents say by looking at the immigration website.

  • Should be finished with my application next week... So much paperwork!!!

  • I now have every document I need for the application, had to have dupe marriage licenses sent over from the US and get originals of my divorce stuff (I never actually received any at the time!!) from the court...

Just waiting to hear back from the visa section at Australia House and I can send it all off...

Very excited... Already looking at property where we wanna move to, just looking obvs...

  • Couple of tax returns to print out in colour tomorrow and I'm all done! The only thing holding us up now is Mrs TS's CRB check...

I'm hoping I can courier the application down to the visa office on Wednesday at the latest... One step closer... :)

  • Finally got my application off... Finally!!!

    Cross your fingers for me...

  • Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out...

  • :p

  • I can't wait to leave!!!!
