We put names down for a plot last summer, told 3yr wait. Offered a 'half plot' by email today. Happy days. Site has a nice communal space including clay oven for pizza etc at open days.

Strong allotment facilities... Pizza oven! and that communal space! We're lucky if the water pressure is strong enough to use a hose (bit jealous).

Popped down to mine today for a water and to pick the rhubarb. It's an interesting set up. I go to my allotment probably 3 times a week in the summer and maybe once a week in the winter, or once every two weeks maybe. It's a half plot. In the summer it's fully cultivated.
I still get shitty emails from the allotment police though telling me to go and dig it and weed it. It's all very odd. Apparently one of the old blokes who is there literally every day keeps a note pad of who goes on a daily basis.
I've not responded as I might have done usually because I've made allowances that the allotment police are oddballs with a lot of time on their hands.
But does anyone else get strange correspondence from the allotment stazi ? I literally go there three times a week and it's well used , so I find all this quite odd tbh.

Making a start on the fruit cage on ours. Jointing oak beams is a massive pain. Kate's been hard at work getting the bindweed out of the strawberry patch and replanting it. Goode times.

A bit of al fresco dining next to the tadpole pond and rockery to finish the evening. Rhubarb for pudding.

So happy to have a (just, so far, a half) plot for now. Bin digging this weekend and today and planting - garlic and broad beans in. More news soon :)

^ nice one, hope you're still making progress
I've been working on our plot access, we had to cross neighbouring half plot which was always a bit awkward. Have made a pallet gate over a metal post that was handily placed. It is quite basic but fits the ramshackle vibe of many neighbouring plots.
Also discovered the overlength tacks prior owner used for the shed roof felt means it leaks like a seive!

Allotment diy is the best kind :)

It's certainly the DIY where finish quality isn't vital, and a rough saw, hammer & nails covers most jobs...

That sounds promising. If the soil is in good order then you can just manure and the worms / frost will do the rest. This is a great time to take one on as it gives you plenty of time to set out paths or beds or whatever while everything is dormant.
If you want to start growing stuff and like beans you could try getting in some broad beans next month to overwinter, they'll give you an early crop next year.
