Today I took part in my first hill climb up Harris End Fell (Lancashire). Sat at the bottom looking up I thought I was going to be sick. Just over 5 minutes later I was at the top (somehow I thought the top was further so continued cycling past the finish flag), a glorious view was to be seen at the top, sunshine, blue skies & lungs that felt relief at not having to continue uphill. Turns out I was fastest female & came 10th overall (out of 16, but still managed to beat some guys). This time last year I would never have dreamt about doing something so ridiculous.

Top work , well done.
It was a beautiful autumnal morning in Kent, so did a quick blast on the good bike. One of those rides that has you smiling all day.

110 flat fast miles with some powerhouses on a Kingston wheeler club run. Unlike ttm's comment ^^, one of those rides that leave you feeling like a vegetable for the rest or the day. Fucked.
As if I'll be at my desk in 12 hours... Groan

110 miles in November? WTF?
-
• #6457
Yeh, the it was due to be sunny and dry, so why not?!
Felt pretty odd that the sun had just come up as we set off, and was going down when we got back though..

Was supposed to be 100km with my club, turned up after they'd set off, spent an hour and 20 before I caught them, it them started pissing it down so headed home hands and feet were painful they were so cold!

^ You made the right decision. I did a 85 mile club run today, was a last minute decision totally contrary to last night's plan to not bother due to the rain....
Got soaked in the second hour (ish), spent the rest of the day with my feet in puddles in my shoes and my hands in sodden gloves. Ah well, what doesn't kill you blah blah. Still kinda wish I'd not done it though!

Out at 7am.
Beautiful chilly morning, out through ewell, epsom up through headley, down lodgebottom past ponnies and sheep. Low lying mist and warm sun rising.
Golden leaves and flickering sunlight.
Double lap of boxhill, back down through headley, sun on my back
homeward bound.
35 miles.
Hot bath
Fried egg on toast
Tea.
Perfect morning :) -

How did you manage to swim to Box Hill and back?

The problem with riding 60 miles at a kind of demanding speed in a group is the realization that there really is no necessity for any upgrades on the material.

Did my first ever (semi) competitive group ride this morning with the LVCC circuit race at Hog Hill. No idea where I finished yet but it's the fastest hour I've ever ridden and the most time I've ever spent in the drops - loved it!

V. quick one-hour fixed ride exploring the local lanes yesterday morning. Quite a few people out. Slowed down as I passed a guy jogging with an On-One MTB, to check if he needed help. "Stick to tubes!" he shouted.

Made me smile. Poor bastard. I wonder how far from home he was?
-

Yeah, I chuckled, he seemed to be taking it pretty well. In the direction he was jogging he had a couple of miles to go to the next village.

Riding with Michael Mørkøv on a small 6 man group ride in the forest yesterday, was something that'll stick for a while.

70 ish miles from Windsor too Odiham in 4 hrs, unfortunately wrote off my brand new rear tyre, but otherwise a perfect winter ride, struggled with the pace at first, but was fine towards the end, hopefully it will be a little easier next week!

Rochester to London Waterloo only about 40 miles but was nice to get out of kent on the fixed. Weather yesterday morning was awesome a bit nippy but the sun was warm when stopped

Did a decent 100k today with Big Daddy Wayne at a good winter pace. Felt nice after being off the bike with injury and illness recently.
I have to say though - I had a sub 10% success rate with saying hello to other riders today. Sometimes when I ride in Surrey I wonder why people even come out on their bikes when they are having (what ostensibly looks like) a miserable time.
I really don't get it - when you race or train at the track and when racing TT's etc everyone is so friendly, and generally riders in club kit are friendly on training rides too (bar Dynamo) —*so what's up with all the game-faced sportivist/recreational riders FFS? If you're not enjoying it, then what's the point?

That is Surrey for you. They are a friendly bunch in Essex. Particularly the old geezers.
-
• #6474
I mainly ride in Kent and people are friendlier there.

It would be OK if they nodded or something but most of them just give you this shitty death stare, followed by a quick mental appraisal of how much your bike cost.
A lot of deep section carbon combined with spacer towers too.
Beautiful morning today wasn't it?
Cheers again to you two for getting me at least part way...I've lined myself up a few more hills over the next couple of weeks.
