Meant to go out with Sainsburys Ted today on the MTB.
BB shot to pieces, cranks can't spin at all. So had to cancel the ride.
Hoping I can make it out with Hounslow DW tomorrow instead.

Trying to change my commuter legs into riding legs and embarked on an Essex Hills Jaunt yesterday. Bethnal Green via as many hills in Epping as we could find, then out beyond the M25 on a loop of some lanes and back via Epping again (somewhere around 35 miles). Beautiful weather and the best company!
I have to admit my novice lungs and legs were at the very limit of themselves on a couple of occasions and I used every gear on my road bike (how some of you do hills* fixed is completely beyond me). Didn't quit a single climb though and felt a real sense of achievement rolling back into town along the Lea Bridge Road. Nothing compared to most of what gets posted on here I know, but I'm already gagging to go further as soon as I can.
I've been riding bikes one way or another since I was 3 but haven't ever really tried to put the miles in or even gone beyond urban dashing. Loved it! Any tips or routes for that neck of the woods greatly appreciated. I WILL do a century ride before winter falls.
*yes I know they're baby hills relatively speaking!

picked wrong day for this... route had 7 climbs to cat n fiddle as 7th 6 of them have been into brisk headwind. Result is 11mph ave to get to the cafe 3/4 way up cat, where have stopped for food as gonna need it. even the downhill from here to Derby will be into the wind. point to pointers curse, great prep for Fred Whitton tho.
p.s. blowout count 1, think sidewall on front is on last legs.

Great spin to Brighton with Rhowe. Very quiet route, almost no cars once outside of London. Ride passed without incident of any kind whatsoever.

Russell is a hero for how he tackled the Dyke with his hub geared bike. Top stuff.

good result J.
I made it to derby eventually was a a slog until Wirksworth when I finally found some form. pedalling down the cat n fiddle just to go 16mph in the wind was a bit if a low point. Still, all miles in the tank.

For past few weekends my weekend ride has been the ride to work. Had been doing a canal route, which works out at 20.5 miles in about an hour 20.
Decided to come on the road bike instead today, 17.7 miles undulating with one long climb.
Did it in 59 mins 30, really happy with that. proper beasted myself for the last 7 miles to get under that hour mark.
Hadn't ridden the road bike for a few months, been training fixed mainly. Feels fantastic after spending last few weeks on XC bike.
Felt so strong really happy with that effort. now to get it down to 55 minutes!

Went to the track, rode round in circles. Felt rubbish at the start, got progressively slower, bonked out at the end of the day. Countryside miles tomorrow, hopefully in the sun :)

That's pretty cool, it's nice when you can see and feel progress.
I want to do a similar thing with a 25mile route near me, your little story
has inspired me to start it tomorrow. -

Will see what it takes when I finish in the morning.
It is great to feel progress, glad to have inspired you! Good luck.

Ha, heavens no.

You need to get more aero!
fixed - 30mph
free - 58mph
Saying that though, we do have big hills up here in Leeds....
Also, I am not aero in the slightest.

Wow that's fast, where did you hit 58mph, in leeds? My nose was almost touching the stem, it was predominantly in an effort to illuminate a 30mph slow down sign.

down Otley Chevin.... scary stuff. massive grin though!

Sure is! Power has gone through the roof...
Can really notice as well how smoothly I'm pedalling.
Now to work on getting the cadence up and battle that lactic acid.

The only problem is that I nearly shit myself every time I coast when I'm on my racer.
