  • BJs are £380 delivered.

Surely it's only comparable if geo, welding, build, paint etc. are the same?

    ...

    True.

Just using BJ as an eg because they make handbuilt steel frames and I guessed Thron would be on par with the Vigorelli's 631 frame. So was just doing some basic price comparison's outloud and asking for opinions.

As for BJ's rep... I agree its better to go with an established framebuilder, but is not like BJ have the best rep at the mo - even if it's not to do with the quality of their building.

  • Feathers are nice, but cost 700-odd quid in tokyo fixed, which is a lot for 631 that isn't made to measure.

Also, they're charging 475 for Vigorellis - cheeky.

  • Not so cheeky, they're a shop after all, need to make money to stay afloat, BLB's the same with the Vigorelli pricing too.

Buying direct is always cheaper than buying from shop.

  • What if you don't like blue or aqua ?

  • I don't know what if you don't like blue or aqua ?

  • But I'm undecided about 631, which these days you can get on low end frames like IRO etc. Never ridden it so I don't know what it's actually like, but it surely can't be that good if you can get it on such cheap frames..

631 is 853 without the heat-treatment process. It's intended as a TIG-weldable replacement for 531 (manganese-molybdenum). For anything that doesn't need to be really super light/stiff it's ideal. It's not hugely expensive, but neither was 531 which as well all know was the benchmark for awesomeness since before WW2.

    See http://reynoldstechnology.biz/our_materials_631.php for details.

  • A good example would be Feather Cycles who slowly build his reputation by building bicycles for friends, friends spread words, more people got interested, more bike got bike (abiet experimenting), and now he's pretty known enough to the point that he make decent frame.

Holy flip, that grey 853 frame is a beauty.

  • I had breakfast at the Deptford Project this morning, and wandered into the yard at the back to check out their silent cinema and found a new bike shop / workshop. They are only just getting going and will be doing some bespoke builds as well as reconditioning stuff whilst working with people in the community. It looks great.

They have a website with some information on: http://www.unioncycleworks.org.uk/

  • Top marks to push, friendly and helpful.

  • +1, my LBS, just down the road from my house. Friendly and helpful for mechanical advice and it's nice to be able to buy nice things like a Campag cap while you're in there.

The plain croissants from Belle Epoque two doors up are probably the best in London too, fantastic.

  • since when does prav and hassan work at push. God despite the obvious, haven't seen prav for ages...
    nice video by the way,

  • and Mike transparasite too, even if he didnt make to the video

  • Not strictly a shop but I can't find anything on the forum about 'velo-re' and there should be because they're awesome.

  • Just spotted this on my walk home. Not sure when it actually opens...not long by the looks of it

Nice, another new shop in the neighbourhood

Liam sometimes posts on here as "EastFenders". The mudguards he made me are pretty damned good.

I would have thought it would be hard to ride if you had a hard on? Or is this a bike shop specifically designed for particle physicists?

  • I would have thought it would be hard to ride if you had a hard on? Or is this a bike shop specifically designed for particle physicists?

...who would undoubtedly suffer from a hadron induced hard on anyway

  • :P Glad you guys like the name, pop in and say hi when we open the shop, it will be pretty soon! I had to think long and hard about naming it Hadron...

  • I can't believe I've never heard much about Push cycles... But they are selling Mercians?!? Nice.

Does anyone know who stocks a really good range of bartape? I'm after some Deda or even better Cinelli cork in beige... Pls.

  • You are so out of touch dude...(^^^^^You too corny!)
Barttape can be had from all over (I haven't actually been in many other shops recently); I'm pretty sure push have Cinelli, you can swing by and have a look at the 52cm sky blue Mercian mixte with pastel barberpole in the window and perhaps buy a Mercian water bottle or mug.

  • Mug being the operative word? Bet it's a really overpriced and traditional mug. /kidding you know I love Mercians.
Out of touch: innit. Yeah I lost my old job in the autumn Prav, been trying to carve a freelance career out, busy schmizzy.

  • PUSH do have Cinelli tape but I don't know if they have it in beige.
    Superb shop.

  • Barttape

    Barttape?
