It's mentioned in Faster- as are some of the side effects, which mainly seem to involve the bodies immune system becoming intolerant of some vital biological process.
I expect your are quite right, however.

There was a BBC radio doc on it a few months back. I think I posted a link to it here somewhere. Really interesting.

That made me smile.
Sorry if I derail,
but there was at least one notorious Doc operating in the 2 fields.

Has anyone read the Sports Gene by David Epstein? Gene doping is likely already here when you understand the possible benefits of gene manipulation.
Stem cell implanting has worked in mice to enhance muscular recovery.
Anyone who could afford it will do it, if not now, by next year.Imagine, a whole grand tour team of mice. The bikes will be teeny tiny!

Armstrong's result from 2009 is already void. If they get Andy Schleck on a bio passport case Wiggo may be up to second place from that year. Just have to get Contador disqualified as well.

Samuel Sanchez about to win his first Tour then.

True, I looked that up to see whether that was one of Menchov's invalidated results.

Wales win the first in competition doping offence of the 2014 CG cpmpetition but the press team really need to do a bit more than a "find and replace" on Gareth Warburton's personal statement on his doping positive last week for Rhys William's one today
Gareth Warburton statement 16-17-14
"The news of this anti-doping rule violation has come as a great shock to me. From the outset, I would like to state that I have not knowingly taken any banned substance.
“As a professional athlete, I have always supported and have been an advocate of clean sport. Nothing has changed in this regard.
“However, I recognise that the responsibility for this situation lies with me and I’m committed to working with UK Anti-Doping and will fully cooperate in the legal process.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the best to all my team mates heading to the Commonwealth Games and apologise that I won’t be able to join them as part of Team Wales.
“Finally, In line with this process and until the hearing of the National Anti-Doping Panel, I will not be making any further comment.”
Rhys Williams statement 25-07-14
"I am utterly devastated about the news of this anti-doping rule violation, which has come as a great shock to me. From the outset, I would strongly like to state that I have not knowingly taken any banned substance.
"As a professional athlete, I have always supported and have been an advocate of clean sport.
"However, I recognise that the responsibility for this situation lies with me and I’m committed to working with UK Anti-Doping and will fully cooperate in the legal process.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the best to my teammates at the Commonwealth Games. To be named Co-Team Captain for the Welsh Athletics Team was a great honour and I am distraught that I won't be able to fulfil this role and join them as part of Team Wales.
"I wish them all well. Finally, in line with this process and until the hearing of the National Anti-Doping Panel, I will not be making any further comment."

Being that they are Welsh, can we be certain they are performing enhancing and not recreational?
-
• #3268
Can't they be both? I mean, who hasn't ever done a brick of epo and then laid back and watched the walls breathe?
-
• #3269
That was a quick positive result, no?

• #3270
Ah, before the Games.

JTL gets busted and Sky riders cant keep up with Nibali. Whoever has the dodgy sports doctors will win the TDF....
-
• #3272
So what you are saying is that Nibali is now working with the dodgy doctor that Sky had in 2012 and 2013?
-
• #3273
Well, no one has been able to keep up with Nibali, including spokesman for a clean generation, Valverde. The only Sky rider likely to have been able to crashed out in the first week. So it's hard to see what your point is.

Really? All of that BS is just to provide clickbait to suck in the kind of people who inhabit the comments sections on cycling news sites, there's no science there when the whole analysis is based on some huge arm-waving assumptions.
