  • At the risk of derailling, this thread is not about what I thought it might be about: jazz cigarettes.

I used to smoke an ounce of dope a week, but not touched a doobie for 13 years.

Long term effect? My memory is shot to pieces.

How can you be sure ?

  • Doctor confirmed.

  • I think they should all be allowed to do whatever they want

even clean training for sport has the potnetial to leave people with long term side effects eg broken bones, illnesses picked up in training etc

there are so many potential advantages to be used - nutrition, massage, physiological monitoring, high tech equipment etc etc.

What would be more exciting - clean athletes or fucking turbo charged monsters who might start bleeding from their eyes mid event?

  • Tammy Thomas, US track rider. She's been banned a couple of times for steroid abuse.

That alone should be enough to scotch any argument that you should let pro athletes take what they want.

  • Whatever floats your boat.

    thats a woman?!

  • thats a woman?!

    Allegedly

Yes, you could also show some pictures of formerly female East German shot-putters and their transformation over time.

  • So, serious question--what are the patterns/are there any patterns which seem to signal doping over the longer term? E.g., only coming into form suddenly, not racing a lot throughout the year and only having average results except in 'targeted' races, or having sudden 'surge' days during a stage race? What do the experts look out for?

And how do different types of doping influence these patterns?

  • I think that if you dope in the pro peloton everyone else knows, if you've doped too much and are better than you should be (results wise) then the whispers start and disgruntled teams/indivduals start to chat, before you know it someone has let slip a secret or two to a mechanic who meets a guy in the pits from another team who's brother works as a journo. Something like that.

Or, watching Ricco riding away from the best in the world up a a fucking massive hill is a good sign

Fuckin hell! Are you sure his/her name isn't Thomas Tammy.

  • yeah, domestic level doping - that's mental!

On a similar note, someone I was speaking with reckons that loads of local riders dope. We had drunk quite a lot when this assertion was bandied about, but s/he was quite adamant.

  • I generally accuse anyone who can ride faster than me of being on the gear.

I have no shame in admitting that I think Stelle is on EPO.

    Sad isn't it..
EPO for the Roy Thame cup!

what next? steroids for the club champs?

we got the internal press release for this and I would have laughed had it not been so sad, I don't know the rider in question, but I do know some of the others that were in the top 10 with him.

  • He's got interests in more than just cycling. Holds his share of records for ergo rowing, along with Redgrave & Pinsent.

  • Records in 'ergo' rowing? I'm going home tonight to set a record for the most typing done whilst seated on a turbo watching tv.

    Yep

I have a friend who rides for a well known London team and he was telling me a couple of team members were done for doping.

I mean what is the point. really?
Talentless bastards, If you can't mix it with the best through training and talent alone, you are in the wrong game in my opinion. Unless you are just doing it for fun and to stay fit, but then you wouldn't be doping then either would you
