bolt on sprockets ftw!
I completely fucking agree, my next rear wheel will be 100% bolt-on shizzle...
And shut up, Rob*...- The midget, not the PE teacher...

Never had a problem with the Dura-Ace ones, or the BLB own brand with the weird lip. Not that that helps you get the current one off...

I was removing this one to chuck my 23t cog and a spankers DA lockring on... Life is cruel...

Well, final piece of "useful" advice... I once over-tightened a Token lockring from Evans and it split open without damaging the threads.
Think that was a fluke though.
Basically, I've had plenty of rubbish lockrings that have come off, just never when I wanted them to.

+1 to formula lockrings being gash.
Amen to that shit. Even worse then Miche if thats even possible.
Moog: The profile is based on Paul ones (my second favourite bicycle component). The new BLB ones are also copies from the Paul ones. Nice bit of kit too for £6.

Neve or the BLB own brand with the weird lip.
There the old ones. Based on Phils.
Not as good as the awsome new ones based on Paul. (Sorry Phil, your evil brother makes much nicer lockrings). -

Are the formula ones you're talking about the fat chrome steel ones, cos that's what came with my hub and it's as tough as old boots.
Does need PTFE tape on the threads though. But that's a good idea in any case -

i know this sounds like a real bodge. If you can get someone to hold the wheel solid maybe bolted in the dropouts of an old frame. You will then needa sharp chisel make a shrp blow to make a groove in the lockring to help the chisel to grip. Then give sharp blows to try to turn it off. If it doesn't turn off you will eventually cut through the lockring. Be careful youdo not go too far and damage the hub threads. best of luck.

And Jebus, Marathon Pluses are tough to get on... I've now lost all the feeling in my hands... ;o
That could be your rim rather than the tyre. Mine are so loose on Aerotrack rims than they can fall off the rim on the other side of the rim when seating on the top side!
Could always try the hammer and chisel approach for the tyre too?

silver and pink* formywin
So silver lockring option = Goldtech. I'm trusting a brand without reviews. Bad move?

• #47
Don't buy aluminum lockrings.
-
• #48
Ah coo, thanks. The Goldtech one is CNC machined steel which is fine then.
-
• #49
Is there a higher risk of damaging teh hub when using a steel one? Would rather the lockring go than the hub.
(Awaits the comment of how installing either properly should get no issues)
