Awesome Jess. Would love a head to fix one of the old loaner mallets (the pipe split) and a wheel cover maybe. Sweet. When's the tall bike jousting ? :) xx

Thanks so much Jess|e for doing that, I know a few of the guys where looking for all of that stuff. If I could get a wheel cover myself that would be awesome.

  • Estate agent signs. They are always left beside bins after a place is sold/let.

  • Hi can anyone give me some help - I'm all the way over in Kingston Upon Thames. Where's the nearest place that I can check out bike polo? Thanks.

  • South East polo will be your best bet, Newington Gardens SE1, evenings from 6.30 onwards Monday to Wednesday.

  • The nearest is probably westway (on Thursdays) but the easiest to get to from Kingston if you need to use a bit of public transport is newington (beginners specific session on Tuesdays, but you'd be welcome on Monday and Wednesday sessions too), which is round the corner from Waterloo.

Beaten to it by beagle, although he obviously doesn't know his geography as well as I do ;)

  • Thanks for the replies. I will check one of those places out.

I have a car but they're both quite long journeys for regular visits. Anyone want to start a deepest SW London club?

  • Pretty sure The Beagle would contest that...

  • Hold on, near Waterloo? That's do-able actually. fast train from Surbiton hmmmm.

  • Do it, you'll love it...

  • Thanks, I will defo check it out. Cheers for the v quick replies.

I have about twenty wheel covers, illustrated on one side and plain white on the other that are free to a good home. They will need cutting down to size but can be done with kitchen scissors, etc. I live in Hackney if people want to pick them up if they want more than one? I will bring a few over Saturday just in case.

Yeah, will bring some old heads and stuff. I have quite a few unused ones too which you can have for a small donation to the LHBPA.

The gloves are small white hockey gloves which need cleaning but still life in them!

I would love it, it's been discussed, but never got round to picking a day let alone organising anything... Although apparently there were a few at Kingston Uni last year who started something.

    I'm in Worcester park btw.

  • Interesting... did they play in Kingston did you know, and if so where?

How hard is it to get courts/pitches - do you pay for them/need special permission?

  • I beleive other than coming to souths they also used some kind of Uni ground...

But there are actually quite a few suitable courts around here. If you want to start something you need a flat surface with walls all around that doesn't have a gap at the bottom of the fence bigger than five cm. lights are also a very useful feature.

Size: mostly we play in the average fiveaside/basketball court, but bigger than that is better. (We also have played in car parks, which can be great)

At the moment no one pays for courts they are all public, but westway is a paid for court which is currently paid for by the council and there's soon to be a court in Herne hill which will need to be paid for.

  • If there's a local court owned by the council, generally they're free to use by anyone. The bigger issue is having enough people to regularly turn up and play, all at roughly the same time, so that you can actually hold the court and play some games. Less of an issue if the court isn't used much by other people, and I'm sure there will be some Westway people that might be interested in another night of polo a week. See what you can find on google maps perhaps, or just go for spin around town.

  • ~~If anyone has time to spare, help is needed to build the polo court at Herne Hill. Work will start this Monday and the volunteer list is here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread113097-2.html

Boards and A frames are currently at Ryan's workshop in Hackney Wick (Dye House Lane to be exact, behind the Shell station) and needs to be moved to Herne Hill. Boards and frames would also need to be painted with weather proof paint.~~ Currently on hold.

There is also John H's farewell tourney at Downham later on Saturday. Maybe pop by there after London Fields?
